They reported that Iran has no nuclear weapons and has no nuclear weapons development programme.

IAEA chief warns of "crazies" seeking Iran war

The United Nations nuclear watchdog chief warned on Friday against the "new crazies" advocating military action to halt Iran's nuclear programme and said he did not want to see another war like that in Iraq.
"I wake every morning and see 100 Iraqis, innocent civilians, are dying," International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) director Mohamed ElBaradei said in an interview for BBC Radio.
"I have no brief other than to make sure we don't go into another war or that we go crazy into killing each other. This is a great speech by Al Gore who won the popular vote for US President in 2,000 and should have been declared President.

A New Zealand Supreme Court judge has launched a blistering attack on outgoing British Prime Minister Tony Blair, effectively calling him a war criminal for his role in the Iraq conflict.
Justice Ted Thomas, who retired last year but still presides over ongoing cases, told the Sunday Star-Times yesterday that Blair "deceived Cabinet, parliament and the British people" over the war.

This is a great interview with a long term investigative journalist who knows his Washington subject and their history going back to the 70s and 80s. It gives a new perspective on important events.
One point I question is his assertion that al-Qaeda wants US troops to stay in Iraq so they can be destroyed. I think it may be more true that the CIA and neocons may wish us to think al-Qaeda wants the US troops to stay etc. It is part of US strategy, I believe to stay in Iraq indefinitely and that's one reason they have built new permanent US military bases in Iraq and the biggest US embassy in the world in Baghdad.

He mentions a number of whistle blowers in government or University that have asked awkward questions or exposed Government lies about 9/11. Many have suffered the consequences of their honesty. A growing number of people who have researched the 9/11 questions, have become convinced that the Bush Administration staged a 'false flag' terrorist attack on the US to create a false 'Pearl Harbour'. This appeal is from General Wesley Clark's website. It is unusual to have a 4-Star US General campaigning to prevent a war.
He certainly has an illustrious record as head of NATO attacking the Serbian invasion of Kosovo.  I think his accusations against Iran are quite wrong, but he is condemning the Bush regime's push for a war with Iran. He is advocating peaceful discussions with Iran with a view to resolving differences. He is recommending people take action to help bring this about. All this is good and should be supported. People may disagree with Clark on many points, as I do, but we are lucky to have him on the side of peace when the Bush Administration is working toward a catastrophic war with Iran.

Every leader who wants his people to support and fight in his wars appeals to their 'patriotism'. He also uses other trigger words and values to invoke patriotic fervour such as "defending our liberties, freedoms and democracy".
He tries to sell the idea that to be ''patriotic' a citizen must accept the leaders definitions of who is the enemy and how he must be defeated.
As George Bush told Americans when he announced his 'war on terror'  "You are either with us or with the terrorists". There are no doubts, questions or choices. To be patriotic means following the leader and accepting his lies.

A future generation if there is one, and if US democracy ever returns, people will marvel at how easy it was for a small dedicated group of neocons to steal 2 presidential elections and fool and terrify Americans into giving up their democracy and embracing a military dictatorship. It's an amazing but very sad story for the whole human race. Everyone in the world will experience the disastrous consequences. The following article describes how the stage has been set. All that is required is a new Bush war, such as the planned war on Iran.

America is headed for a military dictatorship – and recent legislation makes this all but inevitable. Last September, Congress passed the Defense Authorization Act , which empowered the president to declare martial law with very little provocation, namely in the aftermath of a "terrorist attack or incident." Having determined that "the execution of the laws" is hampered by the "incident," the president can unilaterally impose martial law – without the consent of Congress, which need only be informed of the event "as soon as practicable." The only condition attached instructs the president to report to Congress after 14 days, and every 14 days thereafter.

All that is needed as Brzezinski warned is "a staged provocation in Iraq or a false flag terror attack within the US". Given these dire warnings about something that could spiral into a World War III or endless wider wars with disastrous horrific consequences, why do people seem so unconcerned?

Former National Security Advisor and founding member of the Trilateral Commission Zbigniew Brzezinski tacitly warned a Senate Foreign Relations Committee last week that an attack on Iran could be launched following a staged provocation in Iraq or a false flag terror attack within the U.S. ...

I have to say that watching Bill Moyers' " Buying the War " was quite an experience for me: a kind of vindication, yes, but also, ultimately, quite a depressing experience.

Just as the Germans believed Hitler's lies, so the US-UK publics are likely to believe really 'big lies' about Iran. Murdock is the man to give these lies to the people using the London Times.

AL-QAEDA leaders in Iraq are planning the first “large-scale” terrorist attacks on Britain and other western targets with the help of supporters in Iran, according to a leaked intelligence report.   - We have seen these before too!
Spy chiefs warn that one operative had said he was planning an attack on “a par with Hiroshima and Nagasaki” in an attempt to “shake the Roman throne”, a reference to the West.
Another plot could be timed to coincide with Tony Blair stepping down as prime minister, an event described by Al-Qaeda planners as a “change in the head of the company”.               But - Who is doing this plotting and timing?

The Vermont Senate has passed a resolution urging impeachment proceedings in the U.S. Congress against President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.
The resolution passed Friday 16-9. The 16 supporters were Democrats. Three Democrats joined six Republicans in opposing the resolution, the Burlington (Vt.) Free Press reported Saturday.
The resolution said Bush and Cheney's leadership raised "serious questions of constitutionality, statutory legality and abuse of public trust."  The state's congressional delegation said it is premature to pursue impeachment, though they share frustrations and anger at the Bush administration.

It's wonderful that the American people are working to have Bush and Chaney impeached.
This prospect is another reason why the Bush regime may resort to extreme measures soon. If he stages a 'false flag terrorist attack' excuse to nuclear bomb Iran, he is likely to quickly follow that with all kinds of emergency legislation in the US including martial law, conscription and a crack down on critics of the Bush regime.

When Nancy Pelosi announced last fall that impeachment was "off the table," official Washington accepted that the primary avenue for holding lawless Presidents to account had been closed off by the new Speaker of the House. But the Republic's citizenry has not been so inclined. And now, with the Administration's troubles mounting, they're preparing to tell Pelosi that America and the world cannot wait until January 20, 2009, to put an end to Bush's reign of error. When Pelosi arrives at the California Democratic Convention in San Diego on April 28--the same day that activists nationwide will rally for presidential accountability--she'll find on the agenda a resolution that declares that the actions of President Bush and Vice President Cheney "warrant impeachment and trial, and removal from office." Delegates are expected to endorse the measure.

It's information everyone should know - not just in the US. I cannot recall a single day since Vulcans' Godfather James Baker sent his thuggish henchman John Bolton to Florida's Palm Beach County to screw up the vote count that has not been filled with horror, anger, shame -- despair. On Dec. 9, 2000 -- three days before the Florida deadline -- the US Republic shuddered on its axis when Bolton crashed through the doors of a Tallahassee library where Miami-Dade ballots were being recounted and shouted triumphantly -- "I'm with the Bush-Cheney team, and I'm here to stop the count!"
In that instant we lost most of what had taken more than two centuries to build. In one fell swoop, Americans were thrust into the mire of an Orwellian World spinning out of control on the other side of the Looking Glass. What a tragedy -- not that so many failed to realize their government had just been seized in a coup de'etat -- but that the few who did refused to acknowledge it.

Looks like he's reached his boiling point.Rep. Kucinich has made ending the war in Iraq the central theme of his campaign. He has even taken aim at the leading Democratic presidential candidates in the field for their votes on authorizing the war.

This expert analysis of US policy increases our understanding of US policies toward the Middle East, Iran and war. After building a convincing case that the Bush Administration will attack Iran. Paul Street still thinks they will not be that crazy. The majority of 'expert' commentators, certainly those on this site, believe they will.  All the military preparations have been made and the forces are in position. Daily Bush demonises Iran and invents new lies  that can be used to justify attack - as he did before he attacked Iraq. It is important that Bush be stopped before he launches an attack.

... God knows there are a large number of reasons for a rational White House NOT to attack. United States and global public opinion is opposed to a U.S. assault on Iran .  So are European and other leading and allied governments, the U.S. intelligence community and much of the nation's military leadership.  According to a February 25th London Times report, “most senior [United States] commanders are prepared to resign if the White House orders a strike against Iran”...

Placing US anti-missile defence systems in European countries is a multi-message to Russia, and another indication that the US is restarting the international arms race and a new cold war. If the US launches a pre-emptive nuclear war on Iran, as much expert testimony indicates, and it looks like it may go global, they may implement global pre-emptive nuclear strikes against some other nuclear weapon states. Bush, as Commander In Chief of US military forces, has the legal right (made law by Congress) to launch pre-emptive nuclear war. He may also introduce nuclear weapons into conventional weapon wars.

... It all sounds like the speech made by Colin Powell during his tenure as U.S. Secretary of State at a meeting of the U.N. General Assembly. In it, he argued Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and the world community was obliged to stop their proliferation and use. The upshot of all that is well known: Such weapons were never found anywhere in Mesopotamia.

Here is a UPI article that shows German enthusiasm for a US missile defence system. As might be expected, the German conservatives welcome a new arms race and cold war in Europe. By embracing Bush's and the media lies about an alleged threat from Iran, they have the flimsy excuse. In the short term they may hope for new opportunities for profits. In the long run it can lead to crippling wars, if not nuclear war. I would think that the lessons of history and the potential for far greater wars than World War II, would have taught the Germans some useful lessons. Apparently not.

Iran's latest claim that it is capable of enriching uranium on an industrial level has encouraged proponents of U.S. plans for a missile shield in Eastern Europe, but Moscow is still not amused. After Tehran's nuclear threats, members of German Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservatives even said more countries in Europe should think about participating in the U.S. anti-missile system.

This article by Gorbachev is the most comprehensive article on the subject of US attempts to sell missile defence to European countries. I am amazed that they seem to be buying this expensive and dangerous fraud. It means less independence for Europe, huge expenditure,  more US domination and agenda, and an increase in the likelihood of crippling wars. How could Europeans accept American lies and propaganda and do such a self-destructive act as install missile defence systems? It makes no sense particularly after they have had the example of US lying to justify their illegal war on Iraq with over 600,000 people killed

Orwell's quotes sum up so much of what is happening today in the US as the Bush regime pursues its imperial warpath toward global domination. This is sustained and facilitated by developing a militaristic fascist state at home. One example is that the policies and actions of the Bush Administration must be presented to the public as moral and just and in line with US values such as "freedom, democracy, liberty etc".

The idea, discussed by me and others, that it is good that most Americans are not directly touched by the President Bush's wars is of course not the whole story.
Our rulers could have forced us to be more involved. They could have passed a special war tax, launched a high-profile “Buy War Bonds” campaign, and found other ways to demand “sacrifice” in the name of patriotism and victory. They could have staged more events featuring “our brave heroes who risk everything to preserve your way of life.” They even could have started conscription if only for symbolic reasons.
But our misleaders have not done any of this. Why not?
To understand, we need to think about the nature of war as a political instrument — for at its core, that is what it is.

Scott Ritter, a friend of Israel, describes how Israel has clandestinely hi-jacked US foreign policy. US taxpayers give Israel about 3 billion dollars a year in military aid. That helps finance the Israeli war machine, its occupation of Palestine and its war on Lebanon. Some is channelled back to the US to help finance one of the most powerful and influential lobbies in Washington - The American-Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). By various methods, Israel manages to influence US legislators and the executive. The US war on Iraq, and the planned war on Iran are now not approved by a majority of Americans according to recent polls.

This new Democratic leadership has failed egregiously.  Not only has the speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, been unable to orchestrate any meaningful legislation to bring the war in Iraq to an end, but in mid-March she carelessly greased the tracks for a whole new conflict. By excising language from a defense appropriations bill which would have required President Bush to seek the approval of Congress prior to initiating any military attack on Iran, Pelosi terminated any hope of slowing down the Bush administration's mad rush to war.

Each of the Democratic Presidential candidates are willing to launch a  nuclear war on Iran, as indicated by their comments below, supposedly to prevent them from making nuclear weapons. However I cannot believe that these three leading Democratic candidates for the US Presidency do not know simple well-established and easily verified facts on Iran.

A year ago, writing in the New Yorker, journalist Seymour Hersh reported: “One of the military's initial option plans, as presented to the White House by the Pentagon this winter, calls for the use of a bunker-buster tactical nuclear weapon, such as the B61-11, against underground nuclear sites.”
For a presidential candidate to proclaim that all “options” should be on the table while dealing with Iran is a horrific statement. It signals willingness to threaten -- and possibly follow through with -- first use of nuclear weapons. This raises no eyebrows among Washington's policymakers and media elites because it is in keeping with longstanding U.S. foreign-policy doctrine.

Iraq May Be the Greatest Crisis of Modern Times

All I can say about Pilger's article "Iraq May Be The Greatest Crisis of Modern Times" is Amen, how right he is. Let us hope that Pilger will cut through public apathy and awaken people who so far, have refused to be concerned. Just about everyone in the developed countries march happily and deliberately unaware, toward Bush's final Armageddon death camps, denying the unthinkable reality with every step.
So did the Jews, as they marched into Hitler's death camps. Most Jews just couldn't believe that they and their families were to become victims of the most diabolical evil ever conceived by man. It is the same today, but the reality is well-camouflaged because we are still able to continue life as usual - for the moment.

In a cover piece for the New Statesman, John Pilger evokes the memory of Germans 'looking from the side' at Bergen-Belsen to describe the challenge facing us in the West as the Bush/Blair 'long war' becomes 'perhaps the greatest crisis of modern times'.

And yet there is a surreal silence, save for the noise of “news” in which our powerful broadcasters gesture cryptically at the obvious but dare not make sense of it, lest the one-way moral screen erected between us and the consequences of an imperial foreign policy collapse and the truth be revealed. John Bolton, formerly Bush's man at the United Nations, recently spelled out the truth: that the Bush-Cheney-Blair plan for the Middle East is an agenda to maintain division and instability. In other words, bloodshed and chaos equals control. He was referring to Iraq, but he also meant Iran.

The Bush regime has a criminal strategy of labelling anyone they choose, who they claim opposes their illegal attack and occupation of foreign countries, as an "enemy combatant". These people are usually completely innocent of such ridiculous charges. They can then be seized from anywhere in the world, imprisoned and tortured indefinitely without charge or trial at Guantanamo Bay or any other of a number of prisons in US client countries with a reputation for torture. Whether they are innocent or guilty of such trumped up unacceptable charges does not matter to the Bush regime.

"They told us this was one of the world's worst terrorists, and he got the sentence of a drunken driver," said Ben Wizner, an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union, referring to David Hicks, a 31-year-old Australian who in a plea bargain with a US military court will serve nine months in prison, largely in Australia. ... "If the United States were not ashamed of its conduct, it wouldn't hide behind a gag order," said Wizner.)

This damming new evidence links those accused of 9/11 crimes, with the CIA and FBI. It is particularly persuasive along with the other evidence presented by the 9/11 Truth movement and other similar groups. It seems ever more obvious that the Bush Administration and various government departments, were deeply involved in the 9/11 attacks, and have been trying to cover up their tracks ever since. Because so many Americans have made similar conclusions, the Bush Administration must be feeling the pressure, and the threat of exposure.

The capture by Iranian forces of 15 British sailors in the Gulf brought shrill, bellicose headlines last weekend and calls for retribution.

Bush, Blair, Howard and other leaders, boosted by US-dictated anti-Iran Security Council resolutions, are bursting with desire to bomb Iran as Pinter says... very few seem to care or think about the probable number of dire consequences and results of such barbarity. It is a few very perceptive writers on internet who care. Certainly not our crop of current world leaders. Like Tony Blair, who lies so well and convincingly for Bush, as he moves his eyebrows up and down to get our agreement.  Bush's tamed world leaders talk languidly about diplomacy as Bush and his 'coalition-of-the-willing' deploy their military forces for the long-planned assault on Iran.

Why George Bush is Insane

.... The US is at this moment developing advanced systems of "weapons of mass destruction" and it prepared to use them where it sees fit. It has more of them than the rest of the world put together. It has walked away from international agreements on biological and chemical weapons, refusing to allow inspection of its own factories. The hypocrisy behind its public declarations and its own actions is almost a joke.
The United States believes that the three thousand deaths in New York are the only deaths that count, the only deaths that matter. They are American deaths. Other deaths are unreal, abstract, of no consequence.

Tony Blair set up the situation for confrontation with Iran. He positioned the UK navy close to Iran, then provoked a military policing reaction from Iran in disputed waters. Iran was defending it's territorial waters. Blair, having succeeded with this provocation, is expanding the dispute with Iran rather than look for a peaceful resolution of what should be regarded as a trivial incident.

There is real danger that this incident, and the way it plays out, may turn out to be outgoing British Prime Minister Tony Blair's last gesture of fealty to President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, and “neo-conservative” advisers who, this time, are looking for a casus belli to “justify” air strikes on Iran.

Russian media is sounding alarms. In February, ultra-nationalist leader Vladimir Shirinovsky warned that the US would launch a strike against Tehran at the end of this month. Then last week, the Russian News and Information Agency Novosti (RIA-Novosti) quoted military experts predicting the US will attack Iran on April 6th, Good Friday.

Some of the many lies used by leaders to get popular support for their wars are mentioned below. Ask yourself why people believe such lies and never seem to learn? One reason is that they are conditioned by the mass media to believe, follow and obey their leader. John Helmer illuminates this.
Inadvertently, he may have started his article with a lie - that David Kelly committed suicide. That is the official version. But many examining doctors disagree with the suicide story. They don't presume to say who may have done it to Kelly, but that someone must have staged it, because the forensic evidence did not support the suicide story. John Helmer has certainly had the journalistic war experience to justify his comments.

Wars usually start with one large lie. Throwing more troops into the breach requires a great many little lies. Wars usually end when the lying can't staunch the bleeding, and the stench.
According to the wife of the David Kelly, the British Defense Ministry expert on Iraqi weapons who committed suicide last Friday by cutting his left wrist, and bleeding to death while on painkillers, "this was not really the kind of world he wanted to live in". But the kind of world prime ministers of England and presidents of the United States hatch, when they go to war together, should have been familiar to Kelly, as he was old enough to remember the Vietnam War.

Professor Griffin's new book "Debunking 9/11 Debunking" meticulously dissects the flaws in Bush's official story about the 9/11 attacks in 2001.
Paul Craig Roberts gives a splendid review of it below and agrees with its findings. But the implications that the Official Story of the 9/11 attacks was basically a collection of lies and myths is not examined in detail in this article. However the appalling conclusions and implications must be made.

The 9/11 attack has been used to start wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, to plan an attack on Iran, to curtail constitutional protections and civil liberties in the US, to radically expand US military budgets and the power of the executive, and to enrich entrenched vested interests.
Professor David Ray Griffin is the nemesis of the official 9/11 conspiracy theory.  In his latest book, Debunking 9/11 Debunking, Griffin destroys the credibility of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Popular Mechanics reports, annihilates his critics, and proves himself to be a better scientist and engineer than the defenders of the official story.

Russian military sources warns     The long awaited US military attack on Iran is now on track for the first week of April, specifically for 4 am on April 6, the Good Friday opening of Easter weekend, writes the well-known Russian journalist Andrei Uglanov in the Moscow weekly “Argumenty Nedeli.” Uglanov cites Russian military experts close to the Russian General Staff for his account.

If the mass media informed the public about Bush's lies to fool the people and Congress into supporting his war on Iraq, and how it violates the US Constitution and international law, and his preparations to use nuclear weapons on Iran, based on the same type of lies, the Polls would be much higher against Bush and his illegal wars. However telling the truth about the Bush Administration and its phony war on terrorism, is not something the media would do. Their role has been to act as cheerleaders for Bush and his wars, repeating his every lie, and preventing the truth from being known.

More Than Half Favor a Deadline for Withdrawal, Bush Suffers Longest Streak Without Majority Support Since Truman
A record number of Americans disapprove of the war in Iraq , and a clear majority now favors the eventual withdrawal of U.S. forces, even if civil order has not been restored there — potentially a tipping point in public attitudes on the war.

This article presents the realities of Bush's intentions and plans to attack Iran. As in the Iraq War. Bush's UK  poodle has staged a provocation in violation of Iranian waters. This will appear to be more authentic, than if the US did it. It also provides the UK with an excuse to satisfy Parliament and the Public, for its participation with the US in a war on Iran.

The timing of the recent incident in which 15 British sailors were arrested by Iran at the mouth of the Shatt al-Arab waterway for purportedly entering Iranian waters couldn't have been more provocative if it had been planned that way. And perhaps it was. The question is, however, who did the planning?

The new Democratically-controlled Congress has totally capitulated to Bush's power, even signalling that he can proceed with his plans for a war on Iran.

The "war on terror" has created a culture of fear in America. Alan Bock must have known all this about the new 'nuclear to use permissiveness' of the Bush Administration.
There has been a nuclear transformation - only to be used as a last resort in response to an attack on the US - to - nuclear weapons to be used when desired in pursuit of military objectives. Where was Alan Bock when this was unfolding before his eyes?

Earlier this week another of the Bush administration hawks fairly quietly left the State Department, apparently upset at the deal the administration struck with North Korea. Robert Joseph occupied a "special perch" in the administration, according to David Sanger in the New York Times. And now – like Paul Wolfowitz (the architect pushed upstairs to the World Bank – shades of Vietnam), Stephen Cambone, Douglas Feith, Scooter Libby, John Bolton, and Donald Rumsfeld – he is gone.

Has our "leadership" traded democracy for empire? Have their over-bloated egos convinced them that they are the world's newly crowned colonial kings? Author Chalmers Johnson is certainly not given to wearing rose-colored glasses. As he concludes in his newest book, Nemesis: "... my country is launched on a dangerous path that it must abandon or else face the consequences."

Have you ever wondered why people were so worried about nuclear dangers in past decades, yet so unconcerned now?
One reason is that in spite of many nuclear crisis - (remember how people evacuated US cities during the Cuban missile crisis)   - nothing ever happened. So people are used to the dire predictions never eventuating. Also, with the end of the cold war, they have been taught to believe that the nuclear risks have decreased, and some undoubtedly have. But some, and new risks, have got much worse. The media deliberately avoids informing the public about the increasing nuclear risks; that the US Defence budget is the highest in history; and that the Bush Administration is making new nuclear weapons to go with the new nuclear doctrines.

Her warnings of a US attack on Iran soon, after staging some kind of provocation that can be blamed on Iran as an excuse, must be taken seriously.
My own view, as readers know from my previous articles, is that the US will stage a 'false flag' allegedly terrorist attack on the US like 9/11, for which Iran will be blamed, to provide Bush with the kind of serious excuse he needs to get public and Congressional support for a nuclear attack on Iran. 

The Cheney speech to AIPAC – reassuring militant rightwingers in Israel and the US that America is leaning forward on Iran, and that we are never leaving Iraq – was filled with honesty and conviction, and gives us a clear window into the administration's thinking.
Cheney's description of terrorists is somewhat emotional and overblown. Calling them "freedom's enemies," he comes dangerously close to describing this administration's id. His emphasis on one-side's victims in last summer's war with Lebanon, and his proud silence on the thousands killed, injured, made homeless and jobless by American weaponry is also understandable as he speaks to the AIPAC audience.

The following article gives yet more proof that the US is preparing for nuclear war. Whether a nuclear attack on Iran will rapidly escalate to a general nuclear war is unknown. But it seems a likely result for a variety of reasons.  What is stupefying is the casualness with which people regard the obvious and growing nuclear threat - the lack of media coverage - Bush's "all options are on the table" threats - the many preparations. - the sheer irrationality of the Bush regime and its statements - the colossal costs of its illegal wars. It is difficult to figure out why people are not more worried and active to prevent this threat to themselves, families and world.

The Trident submarine base at Bangor, just 20 miles from Seattle, has become home to the largest single stockpile of nuclear warheads in the U.S. arsenal. In November 2006, the Natural Resources Defense Council declared that the 2,364 nuclear warheads at Bangor are about 24 percent of the entire U.S. arsenal.
Most of the warheads are deployed on "launch-ready" or hair-trigger alert status.
The Trident submarine system at Bangor has long been a leading indicator of U.S. military intentions. During the Cold War, the Trident system represented a major shift in nuclear war fighting strategy -- from mutually assured destruction to a pre-emptive first strike.

How do you deal with a power-mad and delusional President pursuing  a plan of endless wars for Empire, who has already killed at least 655,000 people and plans to soon begin a new war on Iran using nuclear weapons? I think Dennis Kucinich is right, that Bush must be impeached, urgently, if this disaster is to be stopped before Bush's military activities trigger a world war III.

This past week in the Congress of the United States, I noted that the administration has threatened aggressive war against Iran. This is a violation of the UN charter. Charters are treaties. Article 6 of the Constitution of the United States says that treaties are the law of our land, the supreme law of our land. It's illegal to threaten aggressive war against another nation.
My fellow Americans. We are in an interesting condition in this country, where we are told to take impeachment off the table and keep on the table a U.S. military attack against Iran.     See also: Impeach him or hang him?

This article based on opinions of a Spanish judge that Bush should face charges as a war criminal for his illegal war on Iraq based on lies, is vitally important. It should be read by everyone who accepts Bush lies as truth, and by those who deny, justify, minimize or accept the continuing situation today. Its findings are similar to our own at the PANNZ mock war crimes trial of Bush, Blair and Howard that we held in August 2004 in Christchurch New Zealand. Every MP, government servant, and member of the legal profession, and other interested person should read this and consider their own and their nation's policies.

[JURIST] Baltasar Garzon [BBC profile; JURIST news archive ], an investigating judge for Spain's National Court [official website, in Spanish], said Tuesday that President George W. Bush and his allies eventually should face war crimes charges for their actions in Iraq. In an opinion piece [text, in Spanish] for El Pais , Garzon called the war in Iraq "one of the most sordid and unjustifiable episodes in recent human history." Garzon also criticized those who joined the US president in the war against Iraq as having equally responsible for joining the war effort despite their doubts. In 1999, Garzon tried to extradite former Chilean dictator General Augusto Pinochet [JURIST news archive] from Britain and try him for crimes against humanity. Reuters has more .

.... This reaction either shows total and profound ignorance of the situation, or corrupt duplicity in enabling Bush to make war without hindrance or seeking permission from a Democratic Congress recently elected to stop Bush's wars. ...
It could become millions of deaths, and horrific long-term consequences for everyone, including the US public.
That is the spineless Pelosi and Democratic Party gift to the American public for their support in the last election.

The AIPAC Girl

If George W. Bush launches a pre-emptive war on Iran, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will bear full moral responsibility for that war.
For it was Pelosi who quietly agreed to strip out of the $100 billion funding bill for Iraq a provision that would have required President Bush to seek congressional approval before launching any new war on Iran. Pelosi's capitulation came in the Appropriations Committee.
What went down, and why?

Greg Palast spell's out the real motives of the Bush regime. It's Iaq's oil and a secret plan of the Houston oil moguls. From the oil moguls standpoint the Iraq war is going very well and according to plan  - to limit production in order to keep the price of oil as high as possible. Exxon-Mobil reported the highest profit of any corporation in history  a record $10 billion in profit last quarter. As Bush said: "Mission Accomplished".

It's STILL The Oil: Secret Condi Meeting on Oil Before Invasion

Four years ago this week, the tanks rolled for what President Bush originally called, “ Operation Iraqi Liberation ” — O.I.L. - I kid you not.
And it was four years ago that, from the White House, George Bush, declaring war, said, "I want to talk to the Iraqi people." That Dick Cheney didn't tell Bush that Iraqis speak Arabic … well, never mind. I expected the President to say something like, "Our troops are coming to liberate you, so don't shoot them."
Instead, Mr. Bush told, the Iraqis,"Do not destroy oil wells." Nevertheless, the Bush Administration said the war had nothing to do with Iraq's oil.

The slow genocide of US and UK involvement in Iraq even before they backed Saddam Hussein's invasion of Iran, ending in one million killed, was followed by the lst Gulf war, then the starvation sanctions against Iraq which killed millions, and the lie-based US-UK invasion and bombing and occupation of Iraq since 2003. It is a shocking record of Western duplicity, barbarism and deception. Most people in the US-UK had no idea of the murderous extremes their leaders had implemented on the Iraqis. Barry Lando's article is an eye-opener - an astonishing record of mass murder by a series of US-UK leaders mouthing platitudes about 'freedom, liberty and democracy' as they implemented policies which would kill and starve millions of Iraqis and their children. It will ruin the future of millions of the next generation. Their use of DU munitions alone will poison the land, kill and infect the people for endless generations to come.

4 years later: Let's leave the Iraqis alone, shall we?

It's time for the Iraqis to cease their bloody sectarian rivalries, disband their ruthless militias and death squads and take responsibility for their country's fate. Why should American boys continue dying to save Iraqis from their own perverse selves?

Preparing For A US Dictatorship   The Late, Great American Nation

We live in a fundamentally different country since 9/11. Not only do many Americans view their government with suspicion, but how their government views them has drastically changed.
A perfect example of this took place last fall. Prior to the elections that transformed the makeup of Congress, the Bush Administration pushed for the inclusion of two stealth provisions into a mammoth defense budget bill. The additions made it easier for the government to declare martial law and establish a dictatorship.
Since the days of our Founding Fathers, when King George III used his armies to terrorize and tyrannize the colonies, the American people have understandably distrusted the use of a national military force to intervene in civilian affairs, except in instances of extreme emergency and limited duration.

Bush has established a record as spinning a litany of lies to fool the American people and Congress into supporting an illegal assault, bombing, invasion and occupation of Iraq . He is also spinning similar lies about Iran as an excuse to make war on Iran . He has destroyed Iraq and killed some 655,000 Iraqis. Thus he is a war criminal who has violated the US Constitution and should be impeached. There is suspicion that his crimes may be far greater, regarding the 9/11 issue. So is it any wonder that he wants to be able to suppress if not destroy any evidence of these crimes? The fact that he has taken steps to prevent some of his papers from being seen indicates this.

On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, President Bush was inside Emma E. Booker Elementary School in Sarasota, Fla., to promote his education reform when he learned that America was under attack.
This was a day that changed the Bush presidency and the nation's history.
Scholars and archivists will one day travel to the Bush presidential library on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas to learn more about the nation's leaders and the decisions they made on that day.
The history textbooks and papers that they will write after visiting the Bush library might very well be incomplete.
"On November 1, 2001, less than two months after the September 11, 2001 attacks, Bush issued an executive order that allows former presidents to keep some of their papers secret indefinitely. This executive order violates the Presidential Records Act of 1978, legislation that guarantees public access to papers 12 years after a president has left office.... This order should be overturned so that historians and scholars will get an honest portrait of the Bush administration and future administrations," writes the Republican.

Students everywhere will be interested in this article and video about US students becoming more active against the Iraq war and Bush's plans for a new major war against Iran. Because the US mass media acts as the war propaganda department of the Bush Administration there is a virtual media blackout on news about Campus protest activities and teach-ins in the USA. 'Embedded' reporters usually only report war news, and war-related news, the way the Pentagon wants.
The following gives students the facts. It would be a great help if readers would forward this article to students, student organizations and their media.
If Bush is not stopped, he will try and target today's students, and make them tomorrow's cannon fodder. They have a right to be informed and warned.

On Saturday, March 17, anti-war activists from around the country will gather near the Vietnam Memorial and march to the Pentagon. This event comes 40 years after the historic march on the Pentagon which many observers saw as a turning point in the movement against the Vietnam War. Student organizers are also planning events on campuses around the country between March 15 and 20.

This paper by Tom Engelhardt shows that dramatic and questionable developments under the Bush Administration have not been reported, commented upon, or questioned by the US mass media. For example Seymour Hersh reported in The New Yorker that:
 "a special planning group has been established in the offices of the Join Chiefs of Staff charged with creating a contingency bombing plan for Iran that can be implemented, upon orders of the President within 24 hours and that it's new assignment was to identify not just nuclear facilities and possible regime change targets, but targets in Iran that may be involved in supplying or aiding militants in Iraq." 
What this means is that just about anything and anyone in Iran may be considered a target.

... and no one notices....
In my childhood, one of the Philadelphia papers regularly ran cartoon ads for itself in which some poor soul in a perilous situation - say, clinging to the ledge of a tall building - would be screaming for help, while passersby were so engrossed in the paper that they didn't even look up. Now, we have the opposite situation. A journalist essentially writing bloody murder in a giant media and governmental crowd. In this case, no one in the mainstream evidently cares -– not yet anyway - to pay the slightest attention. It seems that there's a crime going on and no one gives a damn. Think Kitty Genovese on a giant scale.

Paul Craig Roberts has that rare ability to sum up in one page what's happened to our world. The U.S. has been taken over by a criminal conspiracy, using the wars they started and phoney threats to establish a dictatorship in America . They use the familiar words of 'freedom, democracy and liberty' as a cover and justification. Most people are either not aware, deny, or justify this process. They don't know, or feel, the effects of what's happened to their culture. They seldom used their freedoms and rights before. Indeed, they were hardly aware of them or their origin, or their establishment in law. So they don't really miss them - at least, not yet.

Alas, Franz Kafka's novel, The Trial, published in 1925 and George Orwell's novel, 1984, published in 1949, also have been turned into period pieces by the practices of the Bush Regime.
In Kafka's novel, Josef K. is arrested for reasons never given, tried for an unspecified crime, and executed.
The Trial is the model for the Bush Regime's Military Tribunals, which permit execution on the basis of hearsay, secret evidence unknown to the defendant, or confession extracted by torture.

Though U.S. legislators voted against appropriating funds for permanent bases in Iraq, the White House and Pentagon have ignored that prohibition by portraying the huge construction projects to be for temporary facilities tied to the on-going conflict.
From the very start, the debate over Iraq has been obscured by a miasma of bogus statistics and facts: issues no one really wanted to deal publicly with—not the White House; certainly not the Republican-led Congress.

Cindy Sheehan, Dan DeWalt and Ellen McKay have pointed out below, one of the best ways to stop the Iraq war. The group lecture tour of Vermont with town meetings to vote on impeaching Bush was an outstanding success. What a great way to allow the people to vote on the future of their country! Many Americans, even a majority, are frustrated at the apparent hesitation and helplessness of the US Senate and Congress to stop Bush. Could something like this be done in other countries? It would encourage US citizens.

The Nation - When Vermont Governor Jim Douglas, a Republican with reasonably close ties to President Bush, asked if there was any additional business to be considered at the town meeting he was running in Middlebury, Ellen McKay popped up and proposed the impeachment of Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. The governor was not amused. As moderator of the annual meeting, he tried to suggest that the proposal to impeach - along with another proposal to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq - could not be voted on.
But McKay, a program coordinator at Middlebury College, pressed her case. And it soon became evident that the crowd at the annual meeting shared her desire to hold the president to account. So Douglas backed down.

My recent trip to Turkey opened my eyes further to anti-American hatred. .....
I want to live in a country that gives hope to the world. I want to live in a country that decreases world instability instead of fomenting and celebrating it.

An historian of the future commenting on this period in US history will marvel at how a supposedly free people had been so easily tricked into giving up their wealth, freedoms and civil liberties and embracing a George Bush version of fascism to supposedly give them security and protect their freedom and democracy. The American people's response tends to prove Hitler's theorem in his book Mien Kemp: "The bigger the lie the more people will believe it." Although public doubt and rejection of Bush militarism and war is growing, people still accept the bigger lies of the Bush regime:

You have to read the New York Times editorial for Sunday, March 5th.  It's a list  of measures the Bush administration has put in place over the past five years that taken together add up to an astonishing attack against what we used to consider America's most basic constitutional principles.
The Times calls for Congress to take immediate action to reverse the situation.  The editorial, however, should be calling for Congress—and the media– to do much, nuch more.

Richard Mynick shows how America, as people knew it, is disappearing and being transformed into a de-facto dictatorship - a perpetual war machine serving the military-industrial-governmental complex. There is little or no resistance. People are behaving like lambs. It is an indictment of what America is becoming under a blanket of well-designed false propaganda, ladled out to a confused public by a corrupted media.

"The Star-Spangled Banner" painted the United States in 1814 as "The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave." These words, though still mumbled by apathetic consumers at sporting events, amount to a cruel satire of the American people in 2007.

Paul Craig Roberts Sums Up World Crisis

Paul Craig Roberts has had a brilliant career as Assistant Secretary to the US Treasury under Reagan and many other prestigious positions and achievements. The following article is Roberts at his best and brilliantly sums up our predicament and the extraordinary circumstances behind it. I give it my highest recommendation.

The Bush-Cheney regime is America's first neoconservative regime. In a few short years, the regime has destroyed the Bill of Rights, the separation of powers, the Geneva Conventions, and the remains of America's moral reputation along with the infrastructures of two Muslim countries and countless thousands of Islamic civilians. Plans have been prepared, and forces moved into place, for an attack on a third Islamic country, Iran, and perhaps Syria and Hezbollah in Lebanon as well.

Some articles say the US will stage an attack on Iran, others say Israel will attack Iran. Some say it will be a joint operation. In the following article the decision to strike is Israel 's but with US permission. I doubt whether Israel would attack Iran on its own, even though Israeli hawks may reason that Israel's nuclear arsenal will protect it against any retaliation. Other nations would fear that Israel may then retaliate with nuclear weapons and wipe them out. Israel and the US are playing on this fear. Israel has the full support of the Bush regime, which has been planning to attack Iran for years.

An unexpected last-minute ban by NSW Police (no doubt at the instigation of the NSW Labor Government) turned what would have been a routine demonstration into a major test of the right to march.

Is it the beginning of the end of the Iraq war as Paul Rogers suggests? The US is on the verge of starting a major war on Iran (not mentioned by Rogers) that will dwarf the destruction and casualties suffered by Iraq. Perhaps the neoconservatives and Pentagon see the Iraq war, and the surge, simply as diversions from their real aim - Iran. The Bush administration's preparation to strike Iran is complete with the top commander of the US Central Command having received computerised plans for ‘Operation Iranian Freedom', a report has said.
"American military operations for a major conventional war with Iran extend far beyond targeting suspect WMD (weapons of mass destruction) facilities and will enable President George Bush to destroy Iran's military, political and economic infrastructure overnight using conventional weapons," the journal New Statesman has claimed.

Here is the best article so far, that spells out the probability that the US will stage a 'False Flag' operation, in which Iran is blamed for an attack on US territory or military forces, in order to supply the Bush regime with a pretext for attacking Iran. The larger the Bush-staged attack and the more casualties, the more people will be outraged and believe Bush and his war propaganda that Iran is guilty of this crime, and that Bush could never do such a murderous act on his own people. We see it in the Bush administration's commentary on Iran's reported role in training and equipping Iraqis who are fighting US forces that have invaded and occupied that country. We see it in the Bush administration's criticism of Iran's role in funding and equipping Hezbollah in Lebanon. We see it in the Bush administration's direction to the US military to detain Iranian diplomats in Iraq, breach diplomatic facilities, and capture or kill Iranian operatives in Iraq. We see it in the deployment of the third US Naval carrier group (twenty more ships) to the Gulf.

Paul Craig Roberts writes: if Bush nuclear attacks Iran "the populations of many countries would suffer for generations from radio-active particles in the air, water, and food chains. Deaths would number in the many millions" ..."far surpassing the atrocities of the Nazi and Communist regimes." I completely agree with Dr Helen Caldicott who expressed "bewilderment why the rest of the world does not stand up to the US and force a halt to its crimes against humanity." He quoted Vladimir Putin as saying that the US was trying to establish a "uni-polar world" which he defined as "one single center of power, one single center of force and one single master....a formula for disaster" Roberts pointed out that it was foreign loans that were financing Bush's wars of aggression. If Japan and China would stop loaning billions to the US, it could lead to the collapse of the dollar and stop Bush's wars.

What would be the consequences of a US or Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear energy sites?

Professor Waddell gives a perspective on US policy toward smaller states since 1945. It is a matter of invoking the US war cry 'freedom and democracy' as a cover for invasion, regime change and setting up puppet regimes. Thelma and Louise Imperialism - Let me make an argument about Bush administration Iran policy -- about the possibility that a regime-change-style, shock-and-awe air assault might someday be launched on Iranian nuclear facilities and associated targets -- based on no insider knowledge, just the logic of George-and-Dick's Thelma-and-Louise-style imperialism.

What Derfner did not say, is that US escalation in Iraq is part of the preparation for a sudden US attack on Iran, which in turn is part of the neocon plan for US domination of middle east oil resources.

Sweet vindication. Who wouldn't want it? To be right. To be free of criticism and upheld by evidence, by actual proof, that one's predictions about a controversial war were correct.
It is the culture of this town -- trafficking in rightness. People clamor day in and day out, in that polished and politic way of the Washingtonian, to be proved right.

Courage is in short supply in Washington, D.C. The realities of the Iraq War cry out for the overthrow of a government that is criminally responsible for death, mutilation, torture, humiliation, chaos.

Much as he did before the Iraq invasion, George W. Bush is limiting the debate about war with Iran, offering assurances that he considers war "a last resort" even as he moves his military forces into place.

Paul Craig Roberts is one of the best political commentators today and most qualified to give us the truth of what is going on in Washington and what is likely to happen.
What impressed me was the large amount of advice Bush was given by highly qualified Americans that invading Iraq was a mistake. An even greater amount of advice said making war on Iran would be a bigger mistake, very much against US interests, and threatening to the world. However, no amount of wise advice has any effect on Bush, who is following an insane, Israeli-inspired, neoconservative agenda.

Bush's State of the Union Address did not describe the deplorable state of the union. The speech's importance consists of Bush's plea to Congress to please let him fool them one more time in order that he can attack Iran and start a bigger war that Congress will have to support in order to support Israel.   That is all the president had to say. . . .

Will a similar incident like the Gulf of Tonkin attack during the Vietnam War in 1964 be used by Bush as a pretext for war with Iran?

Russian Ex-Chief of Defence, General Ivashov's analysis is very similar to many articles on our website and in my comments. I think it is one of the most informed professional analysis so far of US intentions to nuclear bomb Iran. He even refers to a pretext or what many have referred to as a "False Flag" incident to get the Senate and Congress to give their approval for a nuclear attack on Iran. This Los Angeles Times article shows how US is setting the stage for attacking Iran by making accusations against Iran for aiding the Iraqi opposition.
The US is acting as if it had a divine right to illegally bomb and invade Iraq, justifying it with lies and false accusations. Then the US  blames Iraq's neighbours Iran and Syria, for interfering with their illegal conquest and slaughter of over 650,000 Iraqis and supplying arms to the Iraqi opposition. This is in spite of good relations between Iran and the US-appointed Iraqi government. It is outrageous and delusional for the US, who has created a large war quagmire in Iraq, to portray itself as having the right to dictate Iraq's affairs, it's relations with other states and actually threaten these states for opposing its conquest and killing. The Bush regime has been creating many false reasons for attacking Iran, and preparing the military for an attack for some months. As they get closer the anti-Iran propaganda increases.

The finding by The National Centre for Social Research that "An overwhelming majority of people in Britain are willing to surrender civil liberties to help tackle the threat of terrorism" shows a dangerous shift in social attitudes.
The survey does not take into account that much of the so-called terrorist threat has been greatly magnified, some believe created, by politicians such as Tony Blair, to prepare his public and legislators to support his illegal wars based on a series of lies. At last a courageous US politician, Congressman Ron Paul, has warned fellow Americans that the Bush Administration may stage a false flag operation to incriminate Iran.
Bush can then blame Iran and justify his decision to attack Iran. Many of the comments that follow this short news item suggest that the US will stage some kind of nuclear attack on its own citizens to justify Bush's planned nuclear attack on Iran. Because of the enormous casualties and very long term disastrous consequences, it seems logical for the Bush regime to stage a very big false flag attack on the US - an attack so big, that few would believe that Bush would have or could have committed such a mass killing of Americans. If that's the way it happens, Bush should get all the support he wants, for whatever wars he wants against anyone he names. As Hitler wrote: "The bigger the lie the more people will believe it"

The twilight period of American democracy is now, when various steps, such as impeachment proceedings could still be successful.

The World is at the crossroads of the most serious crisis in modern history. The US has embarked on a military adventure, "a long war", which threatens the future of humanity.
At no point since the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945, has humanity been closer to the unthinkable, a nuclear holocaust which could potentially spread, in terms of radioactive fallout, over a large part of the Middle East.
There is mounting evidence that the Bush Administration in liaison with Israel and NATO is planning the launching of a nuclear war against Iran, ironically, in retaliation for its nonexistent nuclear weapons program. The US-Israeli military operation is said to be in "an advanced state of readiness".

The BAS said that the world faced its most critical choices since the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of the Second World War.

Only impeaching Bush may actually stop his war plans, or taking other immediate actions that can help stop him now, before it's too late.

Just think how you would feel if you have done nothing to stop and/or impeach Bush in time, but you know you actually could have done so, or at least donated funds to help groups and individuals dedicated to stop the Bush War Juggernaut. In other words you could have done something, but decided not to bother.
Think of the human family, your children and grandchildren and the kind of world Bush will create for them if people let him continue.
Your protest and anger after Bush launches his war on Iran will be too late.

By any serious standard of journalism, impeachment should be in the news right now. This illustrates the worst problem with our media. It's not how they cover stories. It's how they do not cover stories.
A Newsweek poll a while back said that 51 percent of Americans want Bush impeached and 44 percent do not. That's about double the support there was for impeaching Clinton when it was in the news every single day.

This report is the first I've seen giving an actual date for the US attack as being before April 2007.

Does anybody believe there is a crime the Bush regime would not commit? After all those lies to get the US public to support the illegal war against Iraq, and murdering 655,000 people, setting up false imprisonment and torture prisons in many different countries, spying on Americans, and others,  I don't believe there is any crime the Bush regime would not commit. They have sneered at the soul of America, stole it, and jumped on it, as the following article illustrates.
