The Paulson-Bernanke Bank Bailout Plan
Will the Cure be Worse Than the Crisis?           by Michael Hudson
September 22, 2008

Saturday's $700 billion junk mortgage bailout is the largest and worst giveaway since a corrupt Congress gave land grants to the railroad barons a century and a half ago. If it goes through, it will shape the coming century by giving finance unprecedented power over debtors – homebuyers, industry, state and local government, and the federal government as well.

Electronic Voting: Here we go again
by Gary Beckwith, solarbus

So much evidence of fraud in the US electronic voting system. Democracy becomes theatre, puppetry and creative fiction. Instead of faithfully counting the peoples votes and honestly announcing the representitive of their chosing, the corrupt arrange the numbers to suit themselves. How can the man in the street have his say and be sure of it even being recorded.

White House Manual Details How to Deal With Protesters

by Peter Baker
August 22, 2007

WASHINGTON - Not that they're worried or anything. But the White House evidently leaves little to chance when it comes to protests within eyesight of the president. As in, it doesn't want any.A White House manual that came to light recently gives presidential advance staffers extensive instructions in the art of “deterring potential protestors” from President Bush's public appearances around the country.

One Man Influences A Nation

comment by Larry Ross
August 20, 2007

So much of recent history, has stemmed from the influence, character, and malevolent skills of one Machiavellian manipulator - Karl Rove.
He created the grand strategies that won elections, and the words issued from George Bush's mouth. The following article shows how easily freedom and democracy can be corrupted in the name of practicing freedom and democracy. Wealth, plus greed, plus fear, plus lies, plus corrupted media wins 'democratic' elections for born again tin pot despots like George Bush. Rove knows when to get out - like a rat fleeing a sinking ship.

Bill Moyers Bids Farewell to Karl Rove

by Bill Moyers
August 17, 2007

Some closing thoughts now on politics. When Karl Rove announced his resignation from the White House earlier this week, he got some rave reviews. Here's a sample circulating on the Internet. . .
Karl Rove figured out a long time ago that the way to take an intellectually incurious draft-averse naughty playboy in a flight jacket with chewing tobacco in his back pocket and make him governor of Texas, was to sell him as God's anointed in a state where preachers and televangelists outnumber even oil derricks and jack rabbits. Using church pews as precincts Rove turned religion into a weapon of political combat - a battering ram, aimed at the devil's minions, especially at gay people.

Bleak Future for Americans

comment by Larry Ross
August 15, 2007

Americans will have very little choice in the next election, as the Democrats embrace the same deceptive policies as the Bush Administration.
Although the Bush republicans can be shot down in flames over their series of invented lies to justify wars in Iraq and Iran, none of the front running democrats are prepared to say so. They even say, like Bush, that they are prepared to use nuclear weapons against Iran and are constantly currying favour with the Israeli lobby. Everything about US politics is myth and pretence. Pretence and lies become truth. It is very sick and very dangerous. Anything can happen. Perhaps the only person who could now save America is Al Gore - if he runs for President.

Neolibs and Neocons, United and Interchangeable

by Philip Giraldi
August 14, 2007

When it comes to foreign policy, particularly as it relates to the Middle East, there is not a whole lot of separation between the Democratic and Republican Parties. Republicans tend to be more bellicose in their statements, but Democrats have more than made up for that with their steely resolve to take the fight to the enemy wherever he might be. Both Republicans and Democrats reflexively support Israel, and nearly all candidates are in agreement on a number of other areas, including an aggressive policy toward Iran.

US War On Iraq Planned Before Bush Became President
by Larry Ross
July 25, 2007

Although the Iraq war was planned before 9/11, as we and many others have said, this 2002 article reminds us of the details. It is staggering and stupefying that the US people, Congress, and media swallowed Bush's lies about the reasons for his war on Iraq when the true facts about Bush's motives and plans were well known. The article indicates the complicity of the media, Congress and others in helping the Bush regime implement its war plans and repeat his many lies. It is only with the help of the media that Bush lies triumphed over the truth and sold most Americans on the justification for war.

Let's Not Forget: Bush Planned Iraq 'Regime Change' Before Becoming President
by Neil Mackay

15 September 2002: A SECRET blueprint for US global domination reveals that President Bush and his cabinet were planning a premeditated attack on Iraq to secure 'regime change' even before he took power in January 2001.
The blueprint, uncovered by the Sunday Herald, for the creation of a 'global Pax Americana' was drawn up for Dick Cheney (now vice- president), Donald Rumsfeld (defence secretary), Paul Wolfowitz (Rumsfeld's deputy), George W Bush's younger brother Jeb and Lewis Libby (Cheney's chief of staff). The document, entitled Rebuilding America's Defences : Strategies, Forces And Resources For A New Century, was written in September 2000 by the neo-conservative think-tank Project for the New American Century (PNAC).

  Theft of Your Civil Liberties
by Larry Ross
July 25, 2007

This is a definitive account about how the Bush Administration has used the 9/11 attack to destroy freedom and democracy in America.
They have systematically removed many civil rights and liberties of Americans and visitors and enacted a myriad of new laws and regulations. These repressive measures may well effect other governments some of whom may enact similar repressive measures. At the same time Bush has decreed and legislated greatly increased power for himself and his administration. In effect he has become a de facto dictator

Five Ways Bush's Era of Repression Has Stolen Your Liberties Since 9/11

Today's America is a much less free place than the America of 2000. Following the attacks of September 11, 2001, the Bush administration has, by word and by deed, erected an edifice of repression here in the United States.
We've been living in it ever since. And it's not a comfortable place. The government is monitoring your phone calls and can read your e-mails and open your snail mail.
The government can access records of your large financial transactions, such as buying a house.

US Citizens Act To Impeach Bush & Cheney
from Larry Ross
July 21, 2007

After DowningStreet.org is acting to impeach the criminals who have deceived the American people thus violating the US Constitution. The Bush regime continues to violate both the Constitution and Internal law by illegally invading Iraq and continuing to murder thousands of Iraqis for resisting their invasion. Calling them "terrorists" is a subterfuge designed to further confuse and deceive the conditioned American people and gain their acceptance and approval for Bush's crimes. AfterDowningStreet.org is neither confused nor deceived. 2+2 are still 4 and this is 2007 not Orwell's "1984". They are trying to get the message through to the American people that their world - the 'real world' - is threatened with unprecedented disaster. The criminal regime should be impeached immediately before they gone on to commit much greater crimes. After.Downing.Street.org needs all the help people everywhere can give them.

Democrats are their own worst enemy
by Dave Lindorff
July 20, 2007

If it weren't so depressing, it would be entertaining to watch the loathed, ridiculed and remarkably unpopular Bush administration continue to run circles around the supposedly ascendant Democrats in Congress.
Now that Democrats have provided Bush with full summer funding for his outrageous and doomed escalation of the Iraq War, they are finding themselves incapable of stopping even that affront to the American public, which last November made it clear it wanted this bloody madness in Iraq to end.

False Flags May Start Iran War and Bush Dictatorship
comment by Larry Ross
July 19, 2007

Paul Craig Roberts knows what's really happening and likely to happen in Washington. He was a top official in the Reagan Administration and assistant editor of the Wall Street Journal. His dire warnings about the disasters to follow if Bush, Cheney and others are not impeached should be a spur to action.
All the indications are for a US war on Iran and all the machinery is in place for Bush to declare a crisis situation and make the US his dictatorship.
Of particular importance is Roberts warnings that Bush will stage a 'false flag' covert attack on the US and then blame Iran as a justification for war and a US dictatorship.

Impeach Now or Face the End of Constitutional Democracy
by Paul Craig Roberts
July 17, 2007

Unless Congress immediately impeaches Bush and Cheney, a year from now the US could be a dictatorial police state at war with Iran.
Bush has put in place all the necessary measures for dictatorship in the form of "executive orders" that are triggered whenever Bush declares a national emergency. Recent statements by Homeland Security Chief Michael Chertoff, former Republican senator Rick Santorum and others suggest that Americans might expect a series of staged, or false flag, "terrorist" events in the near future.

  False Flag on Iran?
from Larry Ross
July 18, 2007

The US has already made a number of false charges against Iran - more than enough to justify a war. Bush may feel he does not need to stage a false flag attack on the US and blame Iran in order to justify his planned attack. He has already invented enough lies to blame Iran , as he did before his attack on Iraq. Congress has given Bush an open door for a new war and the authority he needs to make a new war on Iran on top of the deepening quagmire he made in Iraq.

  The Failing Empire
from Larry Ross
July 17, 2007

America is failing in Iraq, even while it destroys the nation it invaded. It is destroying itself, its economy and any pretence at civilized values, while it claims to be spreading 'freedom and democracy'. In fact it is spreading death, destruction and corrupted client regimes it labels as 'democratically elected'.

  Unquestioned Right to Dominate
by Lamis Andoni
July 6, 2007

America is a modern Rome: an arrogant empire that does not understand the limits of power. I guess no empire really does. This is why they rise and fall. It is not an American trait; it is the nature of unchecked power. Yet in his book, Murphy tries to construct a moral ethos for American hegemony and aggressive drive to dominate the world. Unfortunately the basic pre'ise of his argument goes against history.

by Lamis Andoni

While America fought lost wars, The Bear was awakened! Moving from a unipolar world to a multipolar one provides needed balance, but also might precipitate a new kind of Cold War over oil and gas. Russia is using energy as its means of regaining international prestige.
One of the main reasons for NATO expansion, from America's strategic point of view, was to prevent Russia from restoring its former influence. But Moscow's new diplomatic offensive has made large holes in America's containment policy.

  Farewell to Arms Control
from Larry Ross
July 8, 2007

Scott Ritter as a Chief Weapons Inspector in Iraq, was in a position to know how the US and UK subverted the process from the beginning to facilitate their planned war with Iraq. Ritter then shows how the staffing of a future arms control regime under UN control was well advanced, until scrapped by the US and UK who preferred a world at war instead. It is important to realise that the military-industrial complexes of both countries are dependant on a series of wars into the future to maintain the financial health and profits of their armaments research and manufacturing industries. These are fundamental driving elements of Western culture and identity. They cannot maintain their lead in weapons and plans for global domination, without active wars as a catalyst. Scott Ritter opened new doors of understanding and concern with his deep experience of the machiavellian workings of the real policies of the US and UK.

  A Farewell to Arms Control
by Scott Ritter
July 5, 2007

The organization that was at the center of the maelstrom of the Iraqi weapons-of-mass-destruction fiasco, responsible for bringing the world to the brink of war on no fewer than a half-dozen occasions during the 1990s, and then unable to prevent a war in March 2003, has departed the global scene.  It left not with a dramatic flair befitting its former status, but rather with barely a whimper, reduced to nothing more than a historical footnote in the grand tragedy that has become Iraq.

Urgent: Impeach Cheney Before War With Iran
from Larry Ross
July 7, 2007

Sheila Samples has issued a very powerful call to "Impeach Cheney Now" before he is able to initiate even bigger crimes against America and the world.
The US war planned for Iran is next on Cheney's list. If he gets away with this one, we may have past the point of no return.
There would be no going back or investigation. Iran and the Middle East would be in flames with millions dead and dieing. The world would be totally at the mercy of a series of disastrous consequences amid the confusion that would follow. Any ideas of Impeachment then, would just be a joke.
Pre-emptive impeachment action now is the only way future major crimes could be prevented.

by Sheila Samples
July 6, 2007

Recently, Nova M Radio's Mike Malloy suggested the lethargy that appears to have descended on the American people is more "rage fatigue" than a lack of knowledge or comprehension of the damage wrought by this administration. I agree, although for many of us, rather than fatigue, it's more an inability to "focus" on any single atrocity about which to be enraged. There are just too many incoming horrors at any one time. We are in the throes of a national paralysis....
Dick Cheney must be impeached -- now -- before he lashes out from the dark side, and Iran is aflame; its terrified citizens displaced, dying -- dead.

War Costs Soar by a Third; Total Could Top $1.4 Trillion
by Noah Shachtman
July 6, 2007

It's not just the troops that are surging.  War costs are up for American operations in Iraq and Afghanistan* -- way up, more than a third higher than last year.  In the first half of this fiscal year, the Defense Department's "average monthly obligations for contracts and pay is running about $12 billion per month, well above the $8.7 billion in FY2006," says a new report , obtained by DANGER ROOM , from the non-partisan Congressional Research Service.
Additional war costs for the next  10 years could total about $472 billion if troop levels fall to 30,000 by 2010, or $919 billion if troop levels fall to 70,000 by about 2013.  If these estimates are added to already appropriated amounts, total funding about $980 billion to $1.4 trillion by 2017.

Australia Admits: It's Blood for Oil
by Larry Ross
July 6, 2007

It was obvious from the beginning in 2003, when independent experts and everyone in the peace movement warned that possession of Iraq's oil was Bush's main reason for making war on Iraq. The media dutifully suppressed peace movement warnings at that time, and still do. Their loyalty is to the Bush regime and repeating its lies. They have a de facto ban on any other explanations of Bush's lengthy conspiracy and wars.

Nelson: Oil a Factor in Iraq Deployment
from The Age
July 5, 2007

The Howard Government has today admitted that securing oil supplies is a factor in Australia's continued military involvement in Iraq.
Defence Minister Brendan Nelson said today oil was a factor in Australia's contribution to the unpopular war, as "energy security" and stability in the Middle East would be crucial to the nation's future.
Speaking ahead of today's key foreign policy speech by Prime Minister John Howard, Dr Nelson said defence was about protecting the economy as well as physical security.

  US Fascism Today
comment by Larry Ross
July 6, 2007

This excellent paper sums up some of the fascist evils that BushCo are unleashing on the US public.
Although the polls show 77% of Americans "want the troops home", and disagree with his war to varying degrees, they are not taking significant action against the BushCo regime.
In many ways they seem apathetic and accepting of BushCo lies and of a quite obvious trend to impose fascism over American Democracy.

NYT Uncovers New Steps Toward Fascism
Comment by Larry Ross
June 23, 2007
Bush despises democracy and the Constitutional sharing of power. Thus he rejects the laws passed by Congress including the ban on torture. Congress and the media are turning a blind eye to this and letting him succeed with his trampling of the US Constitution. They fund his illegal wars and agree with his lies. They don't even call for his impeachment or take any preventative action. Basically they have let a power-mad, deluded neocon regime and it's leader, George Bush, take over the US government, lie to the people and congress, and then on the basis of those lies, lead the country to war.
  Don't Veto, Don't Obey
editorial by NYT

President Bush is notorious for issuing statements taking exception to hundreds of bills as he signs them. This week, we learned that in a shocking number of cases, the Bush administration has refused to enact those laws. Congress should use its powers to insist that its laws are obeyed.

World's Greatest Oil Consumer and Polluter

comment by Larry Ross
June 16, 2007

.... America has become a 'Frankenstein-of-perpetual-war' creature, created by the machinations of Bush's neocon complex. Basically it is very much under the domination of the Bush executive and ideology.

Fighting Wars for Oil to Fight Wars

by Michael T. Klare and Tom Engelhardt
June 15, 2007

Sixteen gallons of oil. That's how much the average American soldier in Iraq and Afghanistan consumes on a daily basis – either directly, through the use of Humvees, tanks, trucks, and helicopters, or indirectly, by calling in air strikes. Multiply this figure by 162,000 soldiers in Iraq, 24,000 in Afghanistan, and 30,000 in the surrounding region (including sailors aboard U.S. warships in the Persian Gulf) and you arrive at approximately 3.5 million gallons of oil: the daily petroleum tab for U.S. combat operations in the Middle East war zone.
Multiply that daily tab by 365 and you get 1.3 billion gallons: the estimated annual oil expenditure for U.S. combat operations in Southwest Asia. That's greater than the total annual oil usage of Bangladesh, population 150 million – and yet it's a gross underestimate of the Pentagon's wartime consumption.

Continuing Democracy or Fascism for America?
comment by Larry Ross
June 7, 2007

Decide as soon as Bush Has Set the Stage for a 'False Flag'. Bush's 'National Security Presidential Directive' (below) sets the stage for Bush to impose harsh fascist controls on what's left of American Democracy, after there is another US disaster like the 9/11 attack.

Bush Anoints Himself as the Insurer of Constitutional Government in Emergency
by Matthew Rothschild
May 18, 2007

With scarcely a mention in the mainstream media, President Bush has ordered up a plan for responding to a catastrophic attack.
In a new National Security Presidential Directive, Bush lays out his plans for dealing with a “catastrophic emergency.”
Under that plan, he entrusts himself with leading the entire federal government, not just the Executive Branch.
And he gives himself the responsibility “for ensuring constitutional government.”
He laid this all out in a document entitled " National Security Presidential Directive /NSPD 51" and "Homeland Security Presidential Directive/HSPD-20."

Is Bush Leading US to Nuclear War?
comment by Larry Ross
June 6, 2007

Hartung and Berrigan document that Bush is increasing nuclear weapon expenditures, and developing nuclear war-fighting doctrines and new nuclear weapons while he portrays his chosen target (Iran) as being a nuclear threat. But Iran is within the NPT agreements by enriching uranium to power Iran's nuclear reactors.
Again Bush is lying to lay the groundwork and justification for war with Iran, as he did in preparation for his war with Iraq. The authors have assembled an impressive array of facts in the following article which supports this.

Is Bush Leading Us to Nuclear War?

by William D. Hartung and Frida Berrigan
May 23, 2007

Only days before the fifth anniversary of September 11, President George W. Bush addressed military officers in Washington to warn that nuclear-armed terrorists could "blackmail the free world and spread their ideologies of hate and raise a moral threat to America."
This alarmist vision was accompanied by the White House's release of "A National Strategy for Combating Terrorism," which painted a picture of a "troubling potential WMD terrorism nexus emanating from Tehran." The administration is building the case for war against Iran - a job made easier by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's recent announcement that Iran can now enrich uranium on an industrial scale - despite the fact that many Iran-watchers and nuclear experts consider their claims of enrichment capacity to be an overblown boast.

If You Think Bush Is Evil Now, Wait Until He Nukes Iran

by Paul Craig Roberts
June 6, 2007

The war in Iraq is lost. This fact is widely recognized by American military officers and has been recently expressed forcefully by Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, the commander of U.S. forces in Iraq during the first year of the attempted occupation. Winning is no longer an option. Our best hope, Sanchez says, is "to stave off defeat," and that requires more intelligence and leadership than Sanchez sees in the entirety of our national political leadership: "I am absolutely convinced that America has a crisis in leadership at this time."

  Almost War with China
comment by Larry Ross
June 4, 2007

This vitally important article in the US Congressional Quarterly is a very important revelation of how close the world came to a major US nuclear war with China . This almost happened because Taiwanese politicians were encouraged by US Defence Department highly-placed necons to declare independence from China. This was clandestinely encouraged by top neocon members of the Bush regime, such as Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Feith, Cambora and right wing Republicans in particular. We can thank Colin Powell, and the US State department at that time, for correcting this impression with independence-minded Taiwanese politicians, saying the US may not defend Taiwan if it declares independence.

Vonnegut Names Bush & Associates As Psychopathic Personalities
comment by Larry Ross
May 31, 2007

Vonnegut accurately names the Bush medical ailment as that of having a psychopathic personality. This fits Bush and his associates and their behaviour like a glove. They have no guilt for their many lies and no remorse for their crimes. They feel justified in whatever they do. Thus Bush claims he is in communication with God who advises him. This kind of delusion in a 'so-called' Christian country like the US is accepted as perfectly normal. To the true believers this delusion is real and meritorious. It proves Bush is a man of God and is therefore virtuous and heavenly inspired. Bush's followers show that belief reinforces the Bush delusion, thus helping immunize Bush against advice contrary to his own psychopathic wishes and impulses.
Enlightened Americans will have to stop Bush and his associates with impeachment before he can destroy more countries and trigger a World War III.

Al Gore: Drive for Global Domination Puts US in Greater Danger
comment by Larry Ross
May 26, 2007

This is a great speech by Al Gore who won the popular vote for US President in 2,000 and should have been declared President.
There would have been no Iraq war, and no plans for war on Iran or other states. The terrorist threat would have been dealt with in far different and much more effective ways by co-operating with other governments, and their police to catch and punish the genuine terrorists. The enormously wasteful war expenditures would be non-existent. There would be no threat to the American people or Constitution from a power-mad Administration taking away American civil liberties while it is "trying to impose global domination" according to Al Gore.
I think if Gore ran for President in 2008, he would win many more votes than in 2000 and end up as US President. No other acceptable Democratic candidate could expect to come close to the majority Gore would get.

A Drive for Global Domination Has Put Us in Greater Danger
by Al Gore
May 24, 2007

Moral authority, which is our greatest source of strength, has been recklessly put at risk by this wilful president.
The pursuit of "dominance" in foreign policy led the Bush administration to ignore the UN, to do serious damage to our most important alliances, to violate international law, and to cultivate the hatred and contempt of many in the rest of the world. The seductive appeal of exercising unconstrained unilateral power led this president to interpret his powers under the constitution in a way that brought to life the worst nightmare of the founders. Any policy based on domination of the rest of the world not only creates enemies for the US and recruits for al-Qaida, but also undermines the international cooperation that is essential to defeating terrorists who wish to harm and intimidate America. Instead of "dominance", we should be seeking pre-eminence in a world where nations respect us and seek to follow our leadership and adopt our values.

Lots of former Bush boosters have been in damage-control mode ever since the spotlights of "shock and awe" that they focused on Iraqis and American liberals began turning back on them.   Marine Lt. Col. (Ret) Exposes 9/11 Crime
comment by Larry Ross
May 9, 2007

Colonel Lankford suggests you use Google to verify any comments he makes. He mentions a number of whistle blowers in government or University that have asked awkward questions or exposed Government lies about 9/11. Many have suffered the consequences of their honesty. A growing number of people who have researched the 9/11 questions, have become convinced that the Bush Administration staged a 'false flag' terrorist attack on the US to create a false 'Pearl Harbour'. The intention was to get public support to make war under the new catch-all slogan of 'war on terrorism'.

Statement of Lt. Col. Shelton F. Lankford, US Marine Corps
February 20, 2007

.... Are you afraid that you will learn the truth and you can't handle it? I think I know some people in that category. Are you afraid you will draw the attention of thugs who could do the things that were done that day? Do you believe your fellow man is just not capable of that degree of evil? I would not have believed that my country would ever become a torture state and have the Congress arguing with the executive about it. I thought that Habaes Corpus was fundamental to our civil rights, and now I find that it is not. I thought my country stood for honorable dealings with other nations, then watch a jingoistic cheerleading orgy on TV, composed like Oscar night, with the centerpiece a campaign of "Shock and Awe" as our armed forces invade a practically defenseless nation, without provocation, while considerable doubt of the validity of the reasons for that invasion exists.

  Roberts Exposes Iraq War Hoax
comment by Larry Ross
May 2, 2007

Paul Craig Roberts has had an illustrious career, shown following his article below - the latest of many we have posted on our website. It is well worth reading, and reflecting on its dire implications. We live in one of the greatest crisis in history. Today's nuclear weapons arsenals place every man, women and child at risk, particularly from the new permissive nuclear weapons-use doctrines. Unlike histories previous rogue governments limited to a region and its neighbours, the Bush regime's policies and actions can decide the future of mankind in hours. Whether your children live or die depends on the multiple lies and illegal war polices of the Bush regime. Their war on Iraq may soon be followed by a war on Iran, and much more, if the many expert warnings are any indication.  (One example is to Google "US War on Iran". There are 20 million articles)
How long can people be casual, unconcerned or just dismiss this epic tragic drama and unprecedented personal threat to self, family and humanity?

Bush Has Destroyed Iraq and America
by Paul Craig Roberts

Every American who voted Republican shares responsibility for the great evil America has brought to the Middle East.
The evil that America brought to Iraq transcends the tens or hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians who have been killed and maimed in the conflict. The evil goes beyond the destruction of ancient historical artifacts and the civilian infrastructure of a secular state and the decimation of the lives, careers, and families of millions of Iraqis.

comment by Larry Ross
April 30, 2007

A future generation if there is one, and if US democracy ever returns, people will marvel at how easy it was for a small dedicated group of neocons to steal 2 presidential elections and fool and terrify Americans into giving up their democracy and embracing a military dictatorship. It's an amazing but very sad story for the whole human race. Everyone in the world will experience the disastrous consequences. The following article describes how the stage has been set. All that is required is a new Bush war, such as the planned war on Iran.

Blueprint for Dictatorship - Recent legislation sets us up for tyranny
by Justin Raimondo
April 30, 2007

America is headed for a military dictatorship – and recent legislation makes this all but inevitable. Last September, Congress passed the Defense Authorization Act , which empowered the president to declare martial law with very little provocation, namely in the aftermath of a "terrorist attack or incident." Having determined that "the execution of the laws" is hampered by the "incident," the president can unilaterally impose martial law – without the consent of Congress, which need only be informed of the event "as soon as practicable." The only condition attached instructs the president to report to Congress after 14 days, and every 14 days thereafter.

  Ignore This at Our Peril
by Larry Ross
April 29, 2007

All that is needed as Brzezinski warned is "a staged provocation in Iraq or a false flag terror attack within the US". Given these dire warnings about something that could spiral into a World War III or endless wider wars with disastrous horrific consequences, why do people seem so unconcerned?

Brzezinski Suggests False Flag Event Could Kick-Start Iran War
by Paul Joseph Watson
February 6, 2007

Former National Security Advisor and founding member of the Trilateral Commission Zbigniew Brzezinski tacitly warned a Senate Foreign Relations Committee last week that an attack on Iran could be launched following a staged provocation in Iraq or a false flag terror attack within the U.S. ...
... Brzezinski was careful to highlight the word "defensive" as if to discount its credibility, suggesting that the Bush White House itself would be behind the attack or provocation and subsequently use it as a pretext for war.

Our Captive Media - Bill Moyers indicts media reporting in the run-up to war
by Justin Raimondo
April 27, 2007

I have to say that watching Bill Moyers' " Buying the War " was quite an experience for me: a kind of vindication, yes, but also, ultimately, quite a depressing experience.
As the editorial director of Antiwar.com , my job is to make sure that we cut through the government propaganda and get at the truth about what is really going on in the world, and during the run-up to the Iraq war we had quite a time of it. The lies were coming so thick, and so fast, that it was all we at Antiwar.com could do to continually refute them , and yet that is precisely what we did. Moyers takes us through the lies , and shows how the "mainstream" media failed to make any critical analysis of the administration's allegations. That job, sadly, was left to us.

  Giving Patriotism A Bad Name
by Larry Ross
April 26, 2007

If people object to Bush's illegal wars, his supporters call them unpatriotic or treasonous. If they protest against Israeli war policies and territorial expansion, they are called anti-Semitic.  Every dictatorship, or democracy engaged in illegal wars has appealed to people's 'patriotism' or love of country, to gain public support for their wars and to suppress criticism. Dictators and their supporters do not consider facts or consequences. In war it is all the way with the leader, no matter, why, where, how or any possible consequences. People who say stop, no, or the war is not justified, are condemned as 'unpatriotic'.

Brilliant Refutation of Cheney's False Accusations and Lies
comment by Larry Ross
April 26, 2007

Ex-Presidential Candidate George McGovern in 1972 is still as brilliant as ever and his following paper is a masterpiece. But it is Cheney's lying accusations that will get the headlines in the US today - where lying, illegal wars and support for the Bush regime rules the editorial offices of the major US media.
McGovern's refutation of Cheney's false accusations and exposure of war lies are unlikely to get much news coverage. Most US mass media have already demonstrated that they will not expose Bush-Cheney Iraq war lies, which they have repeated endlessly. So they are unlikely to start now by honestly reporting McGovern's exposure of these lies.

Cheney Is Wrong About Me, Wrong About War
by George S. McGovern
April 24, 2007

Vice President Dick Cheney recently attacked my 1972 presidential platform and contended that today's Democratic Party has reverted to the views I advocated in 1972. In a sense, this is a compliment, both to me and the Democratic Party. Cheney intended no such compliment. Instead, he twisted my views and those of my party beyond recognition. The city where the vice president spoke, Chicago, is sometimes dubbed “the Windy City.” Cheney converted the chilly wind of Chicago into hot air.Cheney said that today's Democrats have adopted my platform from the 1972 presidential race and that, in doing so, they will raise taxes. But my platform offered a balanced budget. I proposed nothing new without a carefully defined way of paying for it. By contrast, Cheney and his team have run the national debt to an all-time high.

Impeach Cheney: Prevent War On Iran
comment by Larry Ross
April 24, 2007

In this long 1997 paper, Major Peters reveals an arrogant self-assured insanity that justifies "a fair amount of killing" in the "perpetual wars" to come. Like many of his fellow psychopaths today in the Bush Administration, the suicidal nuclear potential of modern wars never crosses his mind. He accepts any and all nuclear risks as part of the unconscious background  in which he can give full reign to his primitive militaristic values. The possibility of self-extinction, like the extinction of some 99.5% of all species of life that have ever inhabited earth, never enters his mind or cools his ardour for war. Nor has it in other dictatorships depending on military might to build an empire. To understand the US approach to wars today and their utter lack of principle read this tract. Realise what rational, humane humanity is up against. Rational humane Americans  have been shanghaied into the service of a military-industrial police state.

"The weight of the lies used to lead us into war has grown heavier with each death. Now is the time for Congress to examine the actions that led us into this war, just as we must work to bring the troops home.   Preparing US-UK Publics To Support Attack on Iran
comment by Larry Ross
April 22, 2007

The following article in the London Times is a good example of US-UK collaboration in planting false stories to justify an attack on Iran. Tony Blair is probably staying in office as a trusted US war collaborator until sometime after the US launches the attack. The comments following the article are most valuable in pointing out how closely this false story is to the ones the UK used to justify the Bush-Blair illegal war on Iraq. M15 and other intelligence agencies in the UK and US are now an integral part of the US-UK deception campaign......
Just as the Germans believed Hitler's lies, so the US-UK publics are likely to believe really 'big lies' about Iran. Murdock is the man to give these lies to the people using the London Times.
Some newspapers in New Zealand are playing a similar role, often choosing to reprint blatant propaganda stories from the Murdock paper, in preference to more balanced comment and objective real news stories, such as one sees in The Guardian or Independent.

  Al-Qaeda‘planning big British attack'
The Sunday Times
April 22, 2007

AL-QAEDA leaders in Iraq are planning the first “large-scale” terrorist attacks on Britain and other western targets with the help of supporters in Iran, according to a leaked intelligence report.   - We have seen these before too!
Spy chiefs warn that one operative had said he was planning an attack on “a par with Hiroshima and Nagasaki” in an attempt to “shake the Roman throne”, a reference to the West.
Another plot could be timed to coincide with Tony Blair stepping down as prime minister, an event described by Al-Qaeda planners as a “change in the head of the company”.               But - Who is doing this plotting and timing?

  Impeachment Movement Gathering Steam
comment by Larry Ross
April 22, 2007

It's wonderful that the American people are working to have Bush and Chaney impeached.
This prospect is another reason why the Bush regime may resort to extreme measures soon. If he stages a 'false flag terrorist attack' excuse to nuclear bomb Iran, he is likely to quickly follow that with all kinds of emergency legislation in the US including martial law, conscription and a crack down on critics of the Bush regime.

  Impeachment Fever Rises
by John Nochols
April 20, 2007

When Nancy Pelosi announced last fall that impeachment was "off the table," official Washington accepted that the primary avenue for holding lawless Presidents to account had been closed off by the new Speaker of the House. But the Republic's citizenry has not been so inclined. And now, with the Administration's troubles mounting, they're preparing to tell Pelosi that America and the world cannot wait until January 20, 2009, to put an end to Bush's reign of error. When Pelosi arrives at the California Democratic Convention in San Diego on April 28--the same day that activists nationwide will rally for presidential accountability--she'll find on the agenda a resolution that declares that the actions of President Bush and Vice President Cheney "warrant impeachment and trial, and removal from office." Delegates are expected to endorse the measure.

The Beginning of the End for Bushism?
by Larry Ross
April 5 , 2007

Alberto Gonzales has been Bush's lawyer for a long time, and acted for him in many ways. So Bush made him US Attorney-General where he has acted for Bush ever since, and covered up his crimes. Now there is the chance of exposure under oath, and the trail goes to Bush's door.
Exposure could lead to impeachment. Naturally Bush and his scheming neocons will do everything in their power to prevent this.
As Beimhart suggests "they may even start a new war".

Prosecutor Scandal Is the Beginning of Bush's End
by Larry Beinhart
April 4, 2007

About a year from now, pundits and instant historians will point back at the firing of the federal prosecutors and say, "That's where the impeachment began." I'm glad that it began with, or at least around, Alberto.
The attorney general takes an oath to uphold the constitution and execute the law. When controversial matters come up, his role, traditionally, is often to be the guy who says, "We can't do that, it's against the law."

So Many Threats - Even Asteroids
by Larry Ross
April 1 , 2007

So many factors threaten human existence. .... One would think that such warnings from top people, who know from the inside, would result in remedial behaviour from rational human beings who wish to live and want their children and other human beings to continue to live on our planet. But it is not so.

Will Humanity go the Way of the Dinosaur?
by Robert B. Reich
March 31, 2007

According to a new report from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, some 100,000 asteroids and comets routinely pass between the Sun and the Earth's orbit. About 20,000 of these orbit close enough to us that they could one day hit the Earth and destroy a major city.
But the really worrying news from NASA is that over a thousand of these things are large enough (almost a mile wide in diameter) and their orbits close enough to us as to pose a real potential hazard of crashing into the Earth with enough force to end most life on this planet. Scientists think this is what killed off the dinosaurs about 65 million years ago.

US Analyst Predicts Another US-Staged 9/11 To Justify War On Iran
by Larry Ross
March 30, 2007

Helen Wokusch, M.A. in Clinical Psychology, is an educator, journalist and writes extensively on US political developments, wars and nuclear issues.
Her following article has similar conclusions to mine and other writers on the preliminary strategies the US is likely to use to justify its War On Iran.
All the indications are that the US will soon massively strike Iran, including the probable use of nuclear weapons.

Easter Surprise: Attack on Iran, New 9/11… or Worse
by Heather Wokusch
March 29, 2007

The Bush administration continues moving closer to a nuclear attack on Iran, and we ignore the obvious buildup at our peril.
Russian media is sounding alarms. In February, ultra-nationalist leader Vladimir Shirinovsky warned that the US would launch a strike against Tehran at the end of this month. Then last week, the Russian News and Information Agency Novosti (RIA-Novosti) quoted military experts predicting the US will attack Iran on April 6th, Good Friday.

If the mass media informed the public about Bush's lies to fool the people and Congress into supporting his war on Iraq, and how it violates the US Constitution and international law, and his preparations to use nuclear weapons on Iran, based on the same type of lies, the Polls would be much higher against Bush and his illegal wars. However telling the truth about the Bush Administration and its phony war on terrorism, is not something the media would do. Their role has been to act as cheerleaders for Bush and his wars, repeating his every lie, and preventing the truth from being known.

Alan Bock must have known all this about the new 'nuclear to use permissiveness' of the Bush Administration.
There has been a nuclear transformation - only to be used as a last resort in response to an attack on the US - to - nuclear weapons to be used when desired in pursuit of military objectives. Where was Alan Bock when this was unfolding before his eyes?

Earlier this week another of the Bush administration hawks fairly quietly left the State Department, apparently upset at the deal the administration struck with North Korea. Robert Joseph occupied a "special perch" in the administration, according to David Sanger in the New York Times.   US Democrats Corrupted
by Larry Ross
March 21, 2007

.... This reaction either shows total and profound ignorance of the situation, or corrupt duplicity in enabling Bush to make war without hindrance or seeking permission from a Democratic Congress recently elected to stop Bush's wars. ...
It could become millions of deaths, and horrific long-term consequences for everyone, including the US public.
That is the spineless Pelosi and Democratic Party gift to the American public for their support in the last election.

If George W. Bush launches a pre-emptive war on Iran, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will bear full moral responsibility for that war.
For it was Pelosi who quietly agreed to strip out of the $100 billion funding bill for Iraq a provision that would have required President Bush to seek congressional approval before launching any new war on Iran. Pelosi's capitulation came in the Appropriations Committee.
What went down, and why?

The Madness of George W. Bush
by Larry Ross
March 20, 2007

This paper has some valuable insights into the character and relatively unknown mental illness affecting our society. It is particularly incarnate in George Bush. Paul Levy has called it "malignant egophrenic" illness or malignant egophrenia. In fact the illness could be named other known psychiatric names but "ME disorder" is the term used here.
As he says "George Bush does not exist in isolation. We can view his entire Administration (Cheney, Rice, Wolfowitz, et all) as well as the corporate, military industrial complex that they are co-dependently enmeshed with, the media they control, and the voters that support them, as interconnected parts of the whole system, or a "field".

The Madness of George W. Bush
by Paul Levy
November 28, 2004

The following essay offers a penetrating look at the psychopathology of George W. Bush and the collective psychosis that is gripping America, from a Jungian perspective. (This should be read as part of a series, beginning with my previous post, Parading Jesus , in which I'm exploring the idea of approaching the problem in terms of the interconnection of a "many headed hydra," or what this author terms as an "interrelated field." I think if you read this piece in its entirety you'll appreciate why it is important to look at the problem as a symbiosis rather than isolated parts.

by Larry Ross
March 19, 2007

From London to New York and Washington to Los Angeles in fact all over the world thousands of people were rallying and marching in protest on the 4th anniversary, March 17, of Bush's illegal Iraq war based on his lies. Freezing weather deterred thousands more.
In Christchurch New Zealand about 100 rallied in Cathedral Square. An Iraqi speaker told of the horrible conditions and 600,000 deaths in Iraq and the deprivation, squalor and incredible misery his relatives were suffering in Iraq, as a result of the Bush Administration.

Thousands of anti-war protesters took to the streets of New York Sunday to demand the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq , in a second day of national rallies to mark the fourth anniversary of the war.
Organizers from the group United for Peace and Justice said between 25,000 and 30,000 people marched in the rally, which came a day after similar mass protests in Washington and Los Angeles . Police did not estimate the turnout.
A colorful mixture of students, cyclists, Vietnam war veterans and musicians marched through Midtown Manhattan, drumming and chanting slogans such as "Troops out now" and calling for President George W. Bush to be impeached.

by Larry Ross

This paper is an excellent guide to how propaganda permeates and influences our opinions and guides our reactions. It is one of the best I have seen. Preparing For A US Dictatorship   The Late, Great American Nation

by John W. Whitehead
March 18, 2007

We live in a fundamentally different country since 9/11. Not only do many Americans view their government with suspicion, but how their government views them has drastically changed.
A perfect example of this took place last fall. Prior to the elections that transformed the makeup of Congress, the Bush Administration pushed for the inclusion of two stealth provisions into a mammoth defense budget bill. The additions made it easier for the government to declare martial law and establish a dictatorship.
Since the days of our Founding Fathers, when King George III used his armies to terrorize and tyrannize the colonies, the American people have understandably distrusted the use of a national military force to intervene in civilian affairs, except in instances of extreme emergency and limited duration.

  Stop War by Impeaching Bush
Comment by Larry Ross
March 9, 2007

Cindy Sheehan, Dan DeWalt and Ellen McKay have pointed out below, one of the best ways to stop the Iraq war. The group lecture tour of Vermont with town meetings to vote on impeaching Bush was an outstanding success. What a great way to allow the people to vote on the future of their country! Many Americans, even a majority, are frustrated at the apparent hesitation and helplessness of the US Senate and Congress to stop Bush. Could something like this be done in other countries? It would encourage US citizens.

  Vermont Votes to Impeach Bush/Cheney
by John Nichols
March 7, 2007

The Nation - When Vermont Governor Jim Douglas, a Republican with reasonably close ties to President Bush, asked if there was any additional business to be considered at the town meeting he was running in Middlebury, Ellen McKay popped up and proposed the impeachment of Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. The governor was not amused. As moderator of the annual meeting, he tried to suggest that the proposal to impeach - along with another proposal to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq - could not be voted on.
But McKay, a program coordinator at Middlebury College, pressed her case. And it soon became evident that the crowd at the annual meeting shared her desire to hold the president to account. So Douglas backed down.

  Understanding American Predisposition to War
by Larry Ross
February 28, 2007

This is a fascinating study by a US historian on violence and war in America since its inception.
It is very much a part of the culture. Violence, crime and war are also very popular as entertainment in movies, TV shows, war games and videos. Children grow up playing war games such as "Cowboys and Indians" or between gangsters and police. One of the most popular TV serials was about a Mafia Don, his family and his rackets and crimes. In this social climate it is perhaps natural for people not to seriously question the reasons and motives of their leaders taking them into war. It's as natural as apple pie.
Americans have been repeatedly fooled into supporting questionable wars, as they were in the continuing 2003 illegal war on Iraq.

In case you missed it: Violence is the American Way
by Ira Leonard
April 23, 2003

" Increasingly, Americans are a people without history, with only memory, which means a people poorly prepared for what is inevitable about life -- tragedy, sadness, moral ambiguity -- and therefore a people reluctant to engage difficult ethical issues. "
Elliot Gorn, "Professing History: Distinguishing Between Memory and Past," Chronicle of Higher Education (April 28, 2000).

In August 2002, President George Bush began to drum up a war fever in America with a view to toppling Iraqi Dictator Saddam Hussein, alleged to be the possessor of weapons of mass destruction. Bush did so without providing the evidence, the costs, the "why now" explanation, or long-term implications of such a war.

  Fascism Coming To America
by Larry Ross
February 28, 2007

This article presents a complete picture of how Bush is converting democratic America to Fascist America.
All the steps and legislative acts empowering Bush are shown. All he needs is an event that produces shock, horror, and fear in Americans such as that produced by the 9/11 attack. After that Bush was the hero saving America from terrorism. His popularity soared and he could do anything he wanted and he was given unprecedented power to wage war, even nuclear war, arrest, imprison and torture anyone, and without trial or even accusation.

  What Nuclear War Means
Comment by Larry Ross
February 13, 2007

Paul Craig Roberts writes: if Bush nuclear attacks Iran "the populations of many countries would suffer for generations from radio-active particles in the air, water, and food chains. Deaths would number in the many millions" ..."far surpassing the atrocities of the Nazi and Communist regimes." I completely agree with Dr Helen Caldicott who expressed "bewilderment why the rest of the world does not stand up to the US and force a halt to its crimes against humanity." He quoted Vladimir Putin as saying that the US was trying to establish a "uni-polar world" which he defined as "one single center of power, one single center of force and one single master....a formula for disaster" Roberts pointed out that it was foreign loans that were financing Bush's wars of aggression. If Japan and China would stop loaning billions to the US, it could lead to the collapse of the dollar and stop Bush's wars.

The World Can Halt Bush's Crimes By Dumping the Dollar
by Paul Craig Roberts

What would be the consequences of a US or Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear energy sites?
. . .catastrophic deaths that would result from a conventional attack on nuclear facilities and the long-term increase in cancer deaths from the radiation release.
Should the attack be made with nuclear weapons--as some of Bush's criminally insane neoconservative advisers advocate--the populations of many countries would suffer for generations from radioactive particles in air, water, and food chains.  Deaths would number in the many millions.

Brezinski analyses the war in Iraq, why it happened, what will happen, and how Bush may blame Iran as justification for war, and what should be done to end the quagmire - all in half a page. Brilliant. He also says "the administration is developing a mythical, historical narrative to justify the case for a protracted  and potential expanding war...with much of the world of Islam at large" The big question is: will the US Senate allow him to do it? Or get serious about stopping him in time. Impeachment may be the only way.

Former US Security Adviser Says War in Iraq Calamity; Could Lead to Iran War

Washington - Zbigniew Brzezinski, former U.S. national security adviser, told Congress the war in Iraq is a calamity and likely to lead to "a head-on conflict with Iran and with much of the world of Islam at large."
Testifying before the Senate foreign relations committee Thursday, Brzezinski skewered U.S. administration policy as driven by "imperial hubris" and a disaster on historic, strategic and moral grounds.
While other former U.S. officials and ex-generals have criticized administration policy in committee hearings, none savaged it to the degree Brzezinski did.

Facing The Reality of Whitehouse Delusions
Comment by Larry Ross
February 10, 2007

Tom Engelhardt has written a superb essay describing the insanity of the White House race to war with Iran and the expected appalling and catastrophic results. It is very convincing, and very well documented by a very talented insightful commentator.
He is scared as any normal and informed person would be.  I hope influential Americans, including awakened politicians, are finally scared enough to depart from their comfort zones and actually take effective action to stop this madness. There are many things concerned people could do - if there is the will. The future of humanity on this planet is at stake.

Over the Cliff with George and Dick?

February 7, 2007

Thelma and Louise Imperialism - Let me make an argument about Bush administration Iran policy -- about the possibility that a regime-change-style, shock-and-awe air assault might someday be launched on Iranian nuclear facilities and associated targets -- based on no insider knowledge, just the logic of George-and-Dick's Thelma-and-Louise-style imperialism.
Of course, we all know at least half the story by now. Is there anybody in official Washington -- other than our President, Vice President, the Vice President's secretive imperial staff, assorted backs-against-the-wall neocon supporters lodged in the federal bureaucracy, and associated right-wing think tanks -- who isn't sweating blood, popping pills, and wondering what in the world to do about our delusional leaders?

  Iraq Quagmire: US Insanity Rules
Comment by Larry Ross
February 8, 2007

"What's going on in Washington is unbelievable" says Larry Derfner. How true. "Bush is getting away with it. He's escalating the war in Iraq.
He's sending 21.500 more soldiers over there. Nobody's stopping him, nobody's going to, either - not the Democrats, not the Republicans and not American public opinion." Derfner wrote.
What Derfner did not say, is that US escalation in Iraq is part of the preparation for a sudden US attack on Iran, which in turn is part of the neocon plan for US domination of middle east oil resources.
The current increase of US demonization of Iran and increase in Bush lies as justification for military action is influencing US public opinion to hate and fear Iran as the number one enemy of the US. Only a small handful of US politicians challenge Bush's lies, and they don't get reported.

Will The People Impeach Bush In Time?
Comment by Larry Ross
February 3, 2007

It is a great idea from a great US historian, that the people should hold Bush impeachment hearings all across America. Will it happen? The Democrats are too deeply involved in echoing Bush's lies, and with the Israeli and arms trade lobbies to offer much more than platitudes of token opposition. I think people should try but I doubt if there would be sufficient support in time to stop Bush's war on Iran. There could be as little as two months left.
It would take a massive campaign and I know various organisations are working for this now. So any help people can offer, now is the time to exert effort to prevent a doomsday war. If Bush begins his war, I think it may be too late to impeach him. So now is the time for any effective action.

  Impeachment by the People
by Howard Zinn, AlterNet
February 3, 2007

Courage is in short supply in Washington, D.C. The realities of the Iraq War cry out for the overthrow of a government that is criminally responsible for death, mutilation, torture, humiliation, chaos.
But all we hear in the nation's capital, which is the source of those catastrophes, is a whimper from the Democratic Party, muttering and nattering about "unity" and "bipartisanship," in a situation that calls for bold action to immediately reverse the present course.

  Countdown to Doomsday?
Comment by Larry Ross
February 3, 2007

Robert Parry, a long-time Washington insider and commentator, presents a very informed, powerful and convincing article that the Bush Administration is on course to start a war with Iran , beginning with a massive bombing campaign.
. . . . Parry illuminates many previously little known facts - such as that various leading Democrats such as Senator Hillary Clinton, Senator John Edwards and others have expressed strong support for a US attack on Iran, and no opinions or questions as to the advisability or potential disastrous consequences of such action or the false accusations of the Bush regime. Many democrats are helping build a false case against Iran.

War on Iran: Stop Bush Before He Starts
by Robert Parry
February 3, 2007

Much as he did before the Iraq invasion, George W. Bush is limiting the debate about war with Iran, offering assurances that he considers war "a last resort" even as he moves his military forces into place.

Huge Deception Campaign to Demonise Iran
Comment by Larry Ross
February 2, 2007

Paul Craig Roberts is one of the best political commentators today and most qualified to give us the truth of what is going on in Washington and what is likely to happen.
What impressed me was the large amount of advice Bush was given by highly qualified Americans that invading Iraq was a mistake. An even greater amount of advice said making war on Iran would be a bigger mistake, very much against US interests, and threatening to the world. However, no amount of wise advice has any effect on Bush, who is following an insane, Israeli-inspired, neoconservative agenda.

More Deception from the War Criminal
by Paul Craig Roberts
January 26, 2007

Bush's State of the Union Address did not describe the deplorable state of the union. The speech's importance consists of Bush's plea to Congress to please let him fool them one more time in order that he can attack Iran and start a bigger war that Congress will have to support in order to support Israel.   That is all the president had to say. . . .
. . . "The president took us into this war recklessly. He disregarded warnings from the national security adviser during the first Gulf War, the chief of staff of the army, two former commanding generals of the Central Command, whose jurisdiction includes Iraq, the director of operations on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and many, many others with great integrity and long experience in national security affairs. We are now, as a nation, held hostage to the predictable, and predicted, disarray that has followed."   - Sen. Jim Webb

Will Protest Help?

Comment by Larry Ross
January 22, 2007

It's good to see this protest and typical of the New York Times to downgrade it by underestimating the numbers.
Will it move Bush.? Very unlikely.
. . .
Nevertheless this popular protest is good because it may encourage others and embolden the very weak and vacillating Congress.
Bush is defiant and says he'll continue to make war based on lies, while he is making up new lies to justify his next war. The formula seems to work well for the Bush Administration who are determined to carry on their plan even if it means world war III.
Until Congress faces up to Bush's many lies, instead of going along with them, and acts to impeach Bush, his neocon regime will carry on their war-making agenda.

Protest Focuses on Troop Increase for Iraq
by Ian Urbina
January 28, 2007

Washington - Tens of thousands of protesters converged on the National Mall on Saturday to oppose President Bush's plan for a troop increase in Iraq in what organizers hoped would be one of the largest shows of antiwar sentiment in the nation's capital since the war began.
The event drew demonstrators from across the country, and many said that in addition to taking their discontent to the streets they planned to press members of Congress to oppose the war.

  Another War on Iran Warning
Comment by Larry Ross
January 28, 2007

Here is another warning about Bush's intention to make an attack on Iran, using the same kind of lies and accusations he used before he made war on Iraq. Congressman Dennis Kucinich is the latest in a long line of journalists, politicians, academics and geo-political analysts who have made such warnings.
A Washington Post article quoted a senior US intelligence officer"...that the United States is escalating toward an unnecessary conflict to shift attention away from Iraq and to blame Iran for the United States increasing inability to staunch the violence there."

The White House Is Up To Its Old Tricks; Is Preparing the United States for an Attack on Iran
Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) accused the White House of mounting a media blitz to prepare the U.S. public for an eventual attack on Iran. Today The Washington Post reported the Bush administration has authorized the U.S. military to kill or capture Iranian operatives inside Iraq as part of an aggressive new strategy to weaken Tehran's influence across the Middle East.

  Telling Americans about False Flag
Comment by Larry Ross
January 24, 2007

At last a courageous US politician, Congressman Ron Paul, has warned fellow Americans that the Bush Administration may stage a false flag operation to incriminate Iran.
Bush can then blame Iran and justify his decision to attack Iran. Many of the comments that follow this short news item suggest that the US will stage some kind of nuclear attack on its own citizens to justify Bush's planned nuclear attack on Iran. Because of the enormous casualties and very long term disastrous consequences, it seems logical for the Bush regime to stage a very big false flag attack on the US - an attack so big, that few would believe that Bush would have or could have committed such a mass killing of Americans. If that's the way it happens, Bush should get all the support he wants, for whatever wars he wants against anyone he names. As Hitler wrote: "The bigger the lie the more people will believe it"

House Republican Fears False Flag Operation in Persian Gulf
AlterNet
January 14, 2007

Ron Paul stood on the floor of the House of Representatives and, in an open session, on the record, said, “A contrived Gulf of Tonkin-type incident may well occur to gain popular support for an attack on Iran.”
This is incredible, even by my standards. I watched this clip a few times, and I still don't believe it.
That's the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives! Where's the media coverage of this? * sigh * Listen to the video and read the responses.....

51% of Americans Say "Impeach Bush"
Comment by Larry Ross
January 19, 2007

Only impeaching Bush may actually stop his war plans, or taking other immediate actions that can help stop him now, before it's too late.
That has a chance of being effective.
Just think how you would feel if you have done nothing to stop and/or impeach Bush in time, but you know you actually could have done so, or at least donated funds to help groups and individuals dedicated to stop the Bush War Juggernaut. In other words you could have done something, but decided not to bother.
Think of the human family, your children and grandchildren and the kind of world Bush will create for them if people let him continue.
Your protest and anger after Bush launches his war on Iran will be too late.

If Beale Street Could Talk - Part 2
by David Swanson
January 16, 2007

By any serious standard of journalism, impeachment should be in the news right now. This illustrates the worst problem with our media. It's not how they cover stories. It's how they do not cover stories.
A Newsweek poll a while back said that 51 percent of Americans want Bush impeached and 44 percent do not. That's about double the support there was for impeaching Clinton when it was in the news every single day.

Israel Has Job of Nuclear Attack on Iran
Comment by Larry Ross
January 11, 2007

Israel has been given the job of attacking Iran with nuclear weapons because the mid-term elections ruled out the US doing what they had been planning to do for the  last 2 years, according to this article by Michael Carmichael. Israel is the sacred cow of US politics that few dare criticize. Israel can invoke fears of another holocaust in order to gain public sympathy and dampen down criticism if they use nuclear weapons.

Israel Has Job of Nuclear Attack on Iran
by Michael Carmichael
January 8, 2007

In the early 1990s, one of America's premiere journalists, Seymour Hersh, published a best-selling book, The Samson Option, detailing Mr Vanunu's testimony and a great deal of new information about Israel's vaunted nuclear defense capability.
While the vast majority of the peoples of the earth have known about Israel's nuclear arsenal since 1986, many Americans still do not accept the existence of WMDs under the direct control of the Israeli defense establishment. In the mid-1990s, Michael Moore - not known for his conservatism nor his reflexive support of Israel - made disparaging remarks during an interview that touched on the existence of the Israeli nuclear arsenal, because he was obviously oblivious to either Mordechai Vanunu's testimony or Mr Hersh's bestselling book.

  People Can Make A Difference
Comment by Larry Ross
January 9, 2007

Al Gore believes people can make a difference as the following article shows. He has demonstrated that this can be true with his film "An Inconvenient Truth" and his global efforts to publicize this issue. The people also made a difference in New Zealand by their multi-faceted campaign to declare New Zealand a nuclear free zone. David Lange judged this to be a vote winner, so he jumped on the band wagon in 1984 when he said "elect Labour and we'll make the whole country nuclear free". And so it happened, Labour was elected and made New Zealand  nuclear free.
That was in New Zealand in 1984.  But does this technique of effecting social change work in the USA under Bushism?

  Gore Mobilizes Global Warming Activists
by Anne Paine
January 8, 2007

Hundreds of volunteers from across the country have flocked to Nashville this fall and winter and more are here today as part of a grass-roots training effort to spread the word on global warming.
They are taking part in Al Gore's The Climate Project, which mushroomed from his documentary, An Inconvenient Truth.
The goal had been to train 1,000 "presenters" to show slides of melting glaciers and charts of climbing temperatures, but many more have wanted in.
