Excellent Analysis of 9/11 Questions

comment by Larry Ross
September 5, 2007

Fisk does an excellent analysis of 9/11 questions, but like so many prominent analysts stops short of drawing logical conclusions. There are many reasons and evidence why one can reasonably conclude that Bush and his associates planned and executed 9/11 to give themselves excuses to blame the Arabs and other Moslem states and initiate the 'war on terror'.

Even I question the 'truth' about 9/11

by Robert Fisk
August 25, 2007

Each time I lecture abroad on the Middle East, there is always someone in the audience – just one – whom I call the "raver". Apologies here to all the men and women who come to my talks with bright and pertinent questions – often quite humbling ones for me as a journalist – and which show that they understand the Middle East tragedy a lot better than the journalists who report it. But the "raver" is real. He has turned up in corporeal form in Stockholm and in Oxford, in Sao Paulo and in Yerevan, in Cairo, in Los Angeles and, in female form, in Barcelona. No matter the country, there will always be a "raver".

Excellent Analysis of US War On Iran

comment by Larry Ross
September 5, 2007

This excellent analysis by Chris Hedges fails to suggest that many US plans call for the US use of nuclear weapons against Iran although many good analysts have produced articles indicating this.
He and many other good commentators in the US also fail to describe the tricks and pretexts that the Bush Administration may use, such as staging a  'False Flag' attack on the US and blaming Iran as an excuse to launch a US attack.
Articles after the event will be too late and will either not be printed or will be ignored. If the world survives a possible holocaust, full war will ensure throughout the Middle East and perhaps elsewhere for the indefinite future. The future and great expectations of humanity will changed and consequences extreme.

Iran: The Next Quagmire

by Chris Hedges
September 4, 2007

The most effective diplomats, like the most effective intelligence officers and foreign correspondents, possess empathy.  They have the intellectual, cultural and linguistic literacy to get inside the heads of those they must analyze or cover.  They know the vast array of historical, religious, economic and cultural antecedents that go into making up decisions and reactions.  And because of this—endowed with the ability to communicate and more able to find ways of resolving conflicts through diplomacy—they are less prone to blunders.

Cancer in Iraq Vets Raises Possibility of Toxic Exposure

by Carla McClain
August 23, 2007

After serving in Vietnam nearly 40 years ago - and receiving the Bronze Star for it - the Tucson soldier was called back to active duty in Iraq.
While there, he awoke one morning with a sore throat. Eighteen months later, Army Sgt. James Lauderdale was dead, of a bizarrely aggressive cancer rarely seen by the doctors who tried to treat it.
As a result, his stunned and heartbroken family has joined growing ranks of sickened and dying Iraq war vets and their families who believe exposures to toxic poisons in the war zone are behind their illnesses - mostly cancers, striking the young, taking them down with alarming speed.

Bush Can Justify as Moral, The Greatest of Evils

comment by Larry Ross
September 3, 2007

The religiously deluded, which includes most people in the US, using the right techniques and lies, can justify the greatest crimes and convince most of the US public oi the morality of what they are doing - even using nuclear weapons against non-nuclear nations. Even most US mass media will cooperate in this enterprise. And most of the US public will believe it, if the lies and justification is plausible and the media keeps articles from them which reveal the truth.
For revealing articles, search on Google using "Bush Is he religiously deluded and insane?" to illustrate this statement.

More Wars Will Destroy US

comment by Larry Ross
August 25, 2007

Paul Craig Roberts tells how the US Congress and democratic opposition are no longer acting as the hope of the nation in stopping Bush's illegal war on Iraq, or his planned war with Iran. The consequences of these wars are not considered by the deluded war-crazed neocons. Roberts does not mention that the Bush regime has "nuclear weapons on the table" according to Bush. After an initial conventional weapon attack, and expected Iranian retaliation, the Bush regime may use that as their justification for the planned nuclear strike. Also not mentioned is the possibility that the Bush regime will stage a false flag attack on the US and blame Iran, as a method of gaining public support and consent for anything. Bush wants. There will then be a media blitz designed to fool their public and others, and gain the support and participation of governments in the Bush war plan.

More War on the Horizon

by Paul Craig Roberts
August 23, 2007

pullout from Iraq while I'm president, declares George W. Bush. On to Iran, declares Vice President Cheney.
Israel is a “peace-seeking state” that needs $30 billion of US taxpayers' money for war, declares State Department official Nicholas Burns.
The Democratic Congress, if not fully behind the Iraqi war, at least no longer is in the way of it.
Nor are the Democrats in the way of the Bush regime's build up for initiating war with Iran.

CIA Analyst Says Bush Will Attack Iran

comment by Larry Ross
August 22, 2007

Another article reinforces previous ones that  Bush will attack Iran - this time by a CIA analyst. There is very little doubt about it now - unless Bus is stopped by others in the US administration. That's not  likely as Bush surrounds himself with people who agree with him, and discharge his orders. This is a particularly well-informed rigorous analysis. So denial, and waiting until the war is launched will be much too late to have any effect on the catastrophic results. The time for action is now, for those who are concerned..

Time Predicts and Justifies War On Iran

comment by Larry Ross
August 22, 2007

As usual Time serves as a front line pro-war propagandist for the Bush Administration.
This story predicts a US military strike on Iran. But as expected, it implies it is a conventional strike. It omits to mention the nuclear preparations that may be used in such a strike - either in the initial strike, or later after Iran retaliates.

Prelude to an Attack on Iran

by Robert Baer
August 18, 2007

Reports that the Bush Administration will put Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on the terrorism list can be read in one of two ways: it's either more bluster or, ominously, a wind-up for a strike on Iran. Officials I talk to in Washington vote for a hit on the IRGC, maybe within the next six months. And they think that as long as we have bombers and missiles in the air, we will hit Iran's nuclear facilities. An awe and shock campaign, lite, if you will. But frankly they're guessing; after Iraq the White House trusts no one, especially the bureaucracy.

Saving Earth - DiCaprio's 'The 11th Hour' Documentary

comment by Larry Ross
August 21, 2007

A great doco by Leo DiCaprio stocked with passion and brainpower illuminating the global environment crisis. Plus all you need to know to save this planet. But a Bush-Cheney war on Iran, would be so big, with so many horrific consequences, that any chance we might have to save our environment, will be blown away by a big new war.

Leo DiCaprio Takes Up Where Al Gore Left Off in New '11th Hour' Environmental Documentary

August 19, 2007

DiCaprio's 11th Hour is a powerful documentary that makes the case that our way of life is totally at odds with the sustainability of our planet. But the film needs the Hollywood star to draw a lot more publicity to it.
Three-time Academy Award-nominated movie star Leonardo DiCaprio and his filmmaking partners, Nadia Conners and Leila Conners Petersen, have done us a great favor. They have assembled an incredible array of passion and brainpower in their stirring documentary, The 11th Hour , to teach us just about every thing we need to know about the fate of planet Earth -- how bad things are, and what we can do to reverse the effects of humanity's rapid devastation of this planet.

Debunking Lies To Stop US War On Iran

comment by Larry Ross
August 21, 2007

Here is an excellent radio interview with a top US anti-war activist - Scott Horton.
All the issues are covered - Bush's lies for war are debunked - how End Times Christian Fundamentalist want an Armageddon battle in the middle east and are a powerful force in the US -- how Dick Cheney is as great a threat as George Bush and may get his way to bomb Iran. If you click at the bottom you can get another interview with Ron Paul, one of the few honest politicians left in Washington and one of the best opponents of the plan to start a war with Iran . These are great interviews - play the MP3's yourself, and to friends. Ideal for group gatherings. The newspapers won't do it so it is we who have to try and educate New Zealanders and others with the real facts. Our future depends on it.

Presidential candidate Dr. Ron Paul discusses the economic consequences of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the scars of PTSD and the administration's betrayal of wounded veterans, how nice it would be if the War Party had to clean up the DU, why the U.S. should withdraw from Iraq as soon as physically possible, the role of the Military-Industrial-Complex in determining foreign policy, the likelihood and possible consequences of war with Iran for our troops in Iraq, our economy, and our liberty, why all the tax money spent militarily “securing” recourses is being wasted due to a mistaken and outdated mercantilist understanding of economics, the failure of the Congressional Democrats to check the war powers of the president, why U.S. intervention on behalf of Israel is bad for us, bad for them and bad for their neighbors, America's deteriorating relationship with Russia and China and why the U.S. government should stay out of Darfur. One Man Influences A Nation

comment by Larry Ross
August 20, 2007

So much of recent history, has stemmed from the influence, character, and malevolent skills of one Machiavellian manipulator - Karl Rove.
He created the grand strategies that won elections, and the words issued from George Bush's mouth. The following article shows how easily freedom and democracy can be corrupted in the name of practicing freedom and democracy. Wealth, plus greed, plus fear, plus lies, plus corrupted media wins 'democratic' elections for born again tin pot despots like George Bush. Rove knows when to get out - like a rat fleeing a sinking ship.

Bill Moyers Bids Farewell to Karl Rove

by Bill Moyers
August 17, 2007

Some closing thoughts now on politics. When Karl Rove announced his resignation from the White House earlier this week, he got some rave reviews. Here's a sample circulating on the Internet. . .
Karl Rove figured out a long time ago that the way to take an intellectually incurious draft-averse naughty playboy in a flight jacket with chewing tobacco in his back pocket and make him governor of Texas, was to sell him as God's anointed in a state where preachers and televangelists outnumber even oil derricks and jack rabbits. Using church pews as precincts Rove turned religion into a weapon of political combat - a battering ram, aimed at the devil's minions, especially at gay people.

Many Pressures for War On Iran

comment by Larry Ross
August 19, 2007

In the US there are many political pressures for the US to make war with Iran as the following excellent article details. It indicates that the US is closer than ever to staging provocations that can be used as a pretext and justification for war with Iran . Some of the comments that follow the article are very worthwhile and perceptive.

Cheney, Lieberman and Iran War Conspiracy

August 16, 2007

I was never one of those who believed the Bush administration was getting ready to attack Iran in 2006 or early 2007. But it is now clear that at least Vice President Dick Cheney is conspiring to push through a specific plan for war with Iran. And Senator Joe Lieberman is an active part of that conspiracy.

The Lone Voice of Sanity

comment by Larry Ross
August 17, 2007

Dennis Kucinich is one of the few lone voices of sanity in the US Congress exposing the Bush Administration's steps to prepare the US for a war on Iran. Most Republicans and Democrats have jumped on Bush's war bandwagon. They are repeating and justifying the lies designed to sell Americans on a war on Iran. It is amazing how Bush's many lies on Iran are virtually unchallenged in the media and believed by the majority of Americans who were already fooled by the same kind of lies before the 2003 US attack and occupation of Iraq.

Urgent Letter from Dennis Kucinich about Bush Administration Plans for a US War vs. Iran

Dear Friends,
The Bush Administration is preparing for war against Iran, using an almost identical drumbeat of weapons of mass destruction, imminent threat, alleged links to Al Queda, and even linking Iran with a future 911.

  Costs Of Escalation In Iraq
comment by Larry Ross
August 17, 2007

The very useful figures that Tom Englehardt has complied are astonishing and infuriating. A tiny minority in the US, elected by fraud, and supported by the Government machinery including the Military, using deceitful techniques and lies, started wars and spent billions killing over one million Iraqis, destroyed their infrastructure, created four million refugees (2 outside Iraq and 2 inside), started a civil war, created permanent military bases More than 75, according to the New York Times.

All-time Highs in Iraq: Escalation by the Numbers
by Tom Engelhardt
August 16, 2007

Someday, we will undoubtedly discover that, in the term "surge" -- as in the President's "surge" plan (or "new way forward") announced to the nation in January -- was the urge to avoid the language (and experience) of the Vietnam era. As there were to be no "body bags" (or cameras to film them as the dead came home), as there were to be no "body counts" ("We have made a conscious effort not to be a body-count team" was the way the President put it ), as there were to be no "quagmires," nor the need to search for that "light at the end of the tunnel," so, surely, there were to be no "escalations."

DU Weapons Education

comment by Larry Ross
August 16, 2007

The following article will activate people to order the Poison DUst Educators Pack from the US and educate others, particularly students, about this insidious and long term threat to everyone on the planet. DU will be with us for eternity as it has a 4.4 billion year half life. The US and UK are lying when they claim it does not cause any permanent threat. Their own scientists and military warn that it is a permanent and growing threat to humanity.
But US and UK politicians continue to order it's use extensively for their illegal wars. Informing others about DU, using this and related material, would be a very worthwhile project for any individual or group. Bleak Future for Americans

comment by Larry Ross
August 15, 2007

Americans will have very little choice in the next election, as the Democrats embrace the same deceptive policies as the Bush Administration.
Although the Bush republicans can be shot down in flames over their series of invented lies to justify wars in Iraq and Iran, none of the front running democrats are prepared to say so. They even say, like Bush, that they are prepared to use nuclear weapons against Iran and are constantly currying favour with the Israeli lobby. Everything about US politics is myth and pretence. Pretence and lies become truth. It is very sick and very dangerous. Anything can happen. Perhaps the only person who could now save America is Al Gore - if he runs for President.

Neolibs and Neocons, United and Interchangeable

by Philip Giraldi
August 14, 2007

When it comes to foreign policy, particularly as it relates to the Middle East, there is not a whole lot of separation between the Democratic and Republican Parties. Republicans tend to be more bellicose in their statements, but Democrats have more than made up for that with their steely resolve to take the fight to the enemy wherever he might be. Both Republicans and Democrats reflexively support Israel, and nearly all candidates are in agreement on a number of other areas, including an aggressive policy toward Iran.

Protest At US Torture School

comment by Larry Ross
August 14, 2007

Torture is very much a part of the methods of Bush Administration Their object is to breed fear among US citizens and opponents of US wars and expansion. The Head of the torture school at Fort Huachuca is Major General Barbara Fast who was head of Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad during the time of exposure of prison tortures. It shows that the most degrading and inhuman job, can be done by women as well as men. They know that people experiencing torture are apt to say anything they think their torturers want to hear, however unreliable. However torture creates hatred and fear, which is why the monsters do it. Catholic priests, nuns, and other devoted Christians sometimes take their faith seriously. Like Fr. Louis Vitale and Jesuit Fr. Steve Kelly, they are not afraid to walk the path of Jesus Christ.

Pre-Trial Continues for Priests Who Denounce Torture

by Sari Gelzer
August 13, 2007

Two Roman Catholic priests, who were arrested as they approached the Fort Huachuca gatehouse on November 19, 2006, will face a continuance of their pre-trial hearing this August 13 in Federal Court in Tucson, Arizona. The intent of Franciscan Fr. Louis Vitale, 74, and Jesuit Fr. Steve Kelly, 58, was to speak with enlisted personnel and deliver a letter denouncing torture to Major General Barbara Fast, commander at the post. The letter addressed to Major General Fast voices the priests' concern with what is being taught to interrogators who are being trained at Fort Huachuca, the headquarters for the intelligence services of the US military.

Superb Indictment of Western Media Deceptions

comment by Larry Ross
August 11, 2007

This is John Pilger at his best, exposing how the media spins and plays government propaganda as 'news'. How they cover up facts, genuflect to special interests and suppress or omit unwanted truths. As Western society, led by the Bush Administration moves quickly toward dictatorship, using 'wars on terror' as their cover story, it is the media that is cheer-leading the charge - repeating all lies- seldom questioning - and never doubting any official falsehood, and covering up facts which expose official lies. No wonder they want to get their dirty hands on internet and then choke to death this one source of unbiased news. You cannot read John Pilger without wanting to be active in trying to stop this cancerous growth from our culture.

Teaching End Times Fundamentalism to US Soldiers

comment by Larry Ross
August 11, 2007

Spreading 'End Times' fundamentalism, disguised as 'entertainment for the troops' is the other indicator how Bush's 'Born Again' fundamentalism is infecting and guiding his presidency and policies. True Believers make good Crusaders willing to slaughter infidels for George Bush and his pro-war cronies. By instilling 'junk' religious doctrines in captive minds, ordinary Americans can be more easily persuaded to kill and believe their war is moral, just and that their Lord approves whatever they do. No wonder the Pentagon approves this crusade.

The Pentagon Sends Messengers of Apocalypse to Convert Soldiers in Iraq

Actor Stephen Baldwin, the youngest member of the famous Baldwin brothers, is no longer playing Pauly Shore's sidekick in comedy masterpieces like Biodome . He has a much more serious calling these days.
Baldwin became a right-wing, born-again Christian after the 9/11 attacks, and now is the star of Operation Straight Up (OSU), an evangelical entertainment troupe that actively proselytizes among active-duty members of the US military. As an official arm of the Defense Department's America Supports You program, OSU plans to mail copies of the controversial apocalyptic video game, Left Behind: Eternal Forces to soldiers serving in Iraq. OSU is also scheduled to embark on a "Military Crusade in Iraq" in the near future.

Proof of 'False Flag' Attack and War Conspiracy?

comment by Larry Ross
August 10, 2007

Morgan Reynolds believes the 9/11 attacks were an inside job to gain public approval for wars on Afghanistan and Iraq. He also thinks the Bush-Cheney regime will stage another covert 'false flag' attack on the US, then blame Iran to justify a war on Iran. He served in the first George Bush Administration so he has knowledge of what's going on in Washington and insight into the real goals of the Bush regime.

Ex-Bush Official Busts 9/11 Cover-up at U.W. Historical Society

by Kevin Barrett
May 6, 2006

An enthusiastic standing-room-only crowd packed the Wisconsin Historical Society auditorium Saturday to hear ex-Bush Administration insider Morgan Reynolds prosecute top administration and military officials for the 9/11 inside job.
Reynolds to Cheney: "You're BUSTED!"
Reynolds indicted Richard Cheney, George W. Bush, former Joint Chiefs Chairman Richard Meyers, confessed WTC demolisher and insurance-fraudster Larry Silverstein, and others for mass murder, conspiracy, and other charges including high treason. The enthusiastic response from the overflow crowd was a de facto vote for conviction on all counts.

How Major Mass US Media Help Demonise Iran

comment by Larry Ross
August 9, 2007

This important story details how major US media, such as the New York Times and one of it's so-called reporters help to demonise Iran using false accusations such as "killing 5 US soldiers". Big lies and false accusations shape US pubic attitudes to hate Iran and thus approve a future US war on Iran . Many such unsubstantiated accusations are made. This time a top US newspaper with a prestigious reputation has joined directly in the 'demonise Iran ' campaign of the Bush Administration. The NYT played the same role in helping condition the US public to accept Bush's lies and false accusations against Iraq before the war in 2003. They still do. So far as I know the NYT has not admitted it's pro-war propaganda role before and during the infamous Iraq war.

US Republicans favour Iran nuclear strike

by Reuters
June 7, 2007

Republican candidates for US president agreed on Tuesday that Iran must not develop atomic weapons even if a tactical nuclear strike is needed to stop it and accused Democrats of being soft on the issue.

Hillary, Hiroshima and US Hubris

August 8, 2007

US policies and attitudes have shifted from nuclear deterrence with mass destruction and mutual suicide, to nuclear weapon use against any non-nuclear nation named as a US enemy. It's well documented in the Justin Raimondo article that follows. The named enemy is Iran and Bush has invented a number of lies, false accusations and suspicions to demonise Iran to the American people. Bush used the same 'big lie' technique prior to his unprovoked attack on Iraq in 2003. Then he had the alleged 9/11 'terrorist' attack and knowingly concocted lies linking Saddam Hussein to Bin Laden and this attack. Accusations were enough and worked for Bush in spite of mass demonstrations. Although there was lots of evidence these accusations were wrong, Bush's lies - effectively promoted and repeated by the mass media - were sufficient to get public and Congressional support.

Justifying Mass Murder

by Justin Raimondo
August 8, 2007

The anniversary of the U.S. bombing of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is, perhaps, a good time to note that arguments rationalizing and even valorizing the use of nuclear weapons, once considered beyond the pale, are now back in fashion. Here we have yet more evidence of the Bizarro Effect , which, ever since 9/11, has stood everything – especially our traditional concept of morality – on its head, not only repealing the laws of logic and common sense but also ensconcing evil in the place of good.

Another Step Towards US Dictatorship

August 7, 2007

The US Congress and mass media is meekly complying with every step Bush takes toward imposing a dictatorship on American citizens.
Only a few publications, like the San Francisco Chronicle article that follows, expose the latest Bush threat to American democracy.
Again, Bush is demonising Iran by accusing them of wanting nuclear weapons, and accusing them of aiding terrorism in his illegal Iraq War.

In Bush we trust - or else

August 5, 2007

It doesn't require a subpoena of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales or a brave whistle-blower to find President Bush's latest affront to the U.S. Constitution. It's in plain view on the White House Web site: "Executive Order: Blocking Property of Certain Persons Who Threaten Stabilization Efforts in Iraq."

US Capitalist System Spins Out of Control

comment by Larry Ross
August 5, 2007

The US capitalist system is a sacred religion, a dogma that cannot be questioned, but is out of control and leading to global environmental destruction as Sullivan illustrates. However its offspring - the military-industrial-political complex - is also out of control, breeding wars and new arms races which threaten to destroy the world in the nearer future. The economic system and values of global humanity keep accelerating this self-destructive system. Increasingly the bulk of human resources go into preparing for, and fighting, endless wars based on lies and myths.

Why do we sell them our souls?

by Charles Sullivan
October 22, 2005

It is painfully obvious that America is a land that worships the market economy. Big money is God here. Big money is all powerful, omnipotent. All solutions, as perceived by the captains of business, therefore, must be market based. Moreover, in the moribund perceptions of the ruling elite, the market must be totally unfettered. It must exist beyond the pale of conscience, bearing no responsibility to the people, or to the earth that sustains it. It must answer only to the bottom line and reject all other input—a function that it has executed only too well.

Anti-War Demonstration

comment by Larry Ross
August 4, 2007

This may be one of the most important anti-war demonstrations to be held against Bush's illegal war on Iraq and should be supported by all who wish an end to the war. The long-term estimates of some 2 Trillion dollars for the war should be compared to the US Civil Engineers estimate of some 1.6 trillion to repair the aging US infrastructure. Also many social welfare programmes in the US are now being starved of funds.  However to the Bush regime, inventing excuses to wage wars for empire and to feed the US military-industrial complex is likely to take priority. Demonstrations are needed for many reasons, but Bush has shown he will continue to make war whatever the cost and no matter what the criticism. Perpetual war is Bush's answer. This, endless profits and religious delusional are the sacred morality of the Bush regime. I doubt if demonstrations can do it. Impeachment may be the only sure way to stop a nuclear madman.

Money for Bridges and Cities, NOT War! Sept. 29 in DC

August 3, 2007

On October 1, Congress is scheduled to authorize over $100 billion for continued war in Iraq, and estimates for the long term costs of the war are over $2 trillion. Already more than $500 billion has been spent.
"The American Society of Civil Engineers estimates that the USA needs to spend $1.6 trillion over five years to put its infrastructure — which includes some 590,000 bridges — in good condition."

Arctic Resource Wars?

comment by Larry Ross
August 3, 2007

In staking a claim to a large part of Arctic oil and gas reserves, Russia has fired the first shot of what may become known as Arctic Resource Wars.
The Bush Empire, willing to invent lies to justify killing for oil in the Middle East , will also pursue this new resource. Obviously a peaceful solution to opposing claims would be in the interests of all nations. But given US imperial war policies and the value of perpetual wars to the US economy and military-industrial complex, this will be viewed as an opportunity to expand the new US-Russia cold war and new nuclear arms race. That is the likely choice, rather than exploring the options for a peaceful solution.

Russian sub makes claim to resource-rich North Pole

by Reuters
August 3, 2007

Russian explorers dived deep below the North Pole in a submersible and planted a national flag on the seabed to stake a symbolic claim to the energy riches of the Arctic.
A mechanical arm dropped a specially made rust-proof titanium flag on to the Arctic seabed at a depth of 4261 metres under the surface, Itar-Tass news agency quoted expedition officials as saying.
Russia wants to extend right up to the North Pole the territory it controls in the Arctic, believed to hold vast reserves of untapped oil and natural gas.

Neocon Conspiracy from Beginning

comment by Larry Ross
August 2, 2007

Karen Kwiatkowskii had a 20 year career in the US Air Force, finishing as a Lt. Col. doing intelligence assessments on Iraq.
What she reveals is shocking. From the beginning (about 2001) the whole Iraq war was a neocon conspiracy of lies and false concoctions designed to fool the American public and others. Bush's lie factory is still in top production, now spinning a new set of lies about Iran and urgent need to take military action against Iran. Bush's "All options are on the table" means the US is considering using nuclear weapons against Iran. Karen believes Impeachment of Bush is the way Americans can rid of this threat to America and to the world.

Nuclear Power for NZ? No Thanks

August 2, 2007

For readers looking for pro-nuclear power arguments, Google has over 70,000 articles on this subject they may like to consider. You will also find on Google that there are 8,720,000 results for anti-nuclear power, almost 125 times as many against. . . .
. . . In our world of recurring wars, any nuclear installation can become a target. That could mean widespread radiation for centuries. It would destroy the country's agricultural export industry. That's butter, milk, meat, etc. Naturally the pro-nuclearists do not mention this factor, or play it down as unlikely, etc. in their propaganda.

NYT: Back To Pro-War Propaganda

comment by Larry Ross
July 31, 2007

For a moment I dared to hope that the NYT had decided to speak truth to power and become a critic of Bush's crazy war policies and lies to promote. I was wrong. The NYT is worse. It is a more cunning pro-war propagandist than before as the following article shows.

The NYT's New Pro-War Propaganda

by Robert Parry
July 29, 2007

No need to wait until September. It's already obvious how George W. Bush and his still-influential supporters in Washington will sell an open-ended U.S. military occupation of Iraq – just the way they always have: the war finally has turned the corner and withdrawal now would betray the troops by snatching defeat from the jaws of victory......
President Bush signaled the happy-news judgment of his hand-picked commander, Gen. David Petraeus, in a round of confident public appearances over the past two weeks. With his effusive praise of “David,” as Bush called the general at a White House news conference, the President acted like a smug student arriving for a test with the answers tucked in his pocket.

Preparing the US Public for a Terrorist Attack

July 31, 2007

Philip Giraldi is an ex-CIA analyst and intelligence officer. He recently warned that any terrorist attack on the US would be treated as having been masterminded by Iran, to provide Bush with justification to attack Iran. This will happen even if Iran had nothing to do with such an attack.

Terrorists Are Everywhere

by Philip Giraldi
July 31, 2007

In an attempt to reverse plummeting approval ratings, the Bush administration is mounting an unprecedented, sustained campaign of disinformation on the terrorist threat confronting the United States. Even the mainstream media has noted how the White House has attempted falsely to tie al-Qaeda to the war in Iraq, with President Bush increasing the number of references to the group in speeches made during the month of July. On July 10, al-Qaeda was referred to 30 times in a Cleveland speech on the Iraq war. By July 25, the president referred to al-Qaeda no less than 95 times in a speech made before a group of airmen in Charleston, S.C.

Will US Allow Bush To Bomb Iran Soon?

July 29, 2007

Dr Frank gave us an important insight into the mental workings and decision-making of George Bush (below). Unless impeachment proceedings begin very soon, Dr Frank predicts Bush will attack Iran. It is not so much a matter of Bush deciding not to take this course, as the US Congress deciding to stop him before he can do it, and/or the US  military deciding not to implement a Bush command to strike Iran, because their loyalty to the US Constitution trumps Bush commands.
Unfortunately both possibilities are not strong and Bush has surrounded himself with yes men who will obey his every command.

Dangers of a Cornered George Bush

By Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity & Dr. Justin Frank
July 27, 2007
The “new” strategy of surging troops in Baghdad has simply wasted more lives and bought some time for the president. His strategy boils down to keeping as many of our soldiers engaged as possible, in order to stave off definitive defeat in Iraq before January 2009.
Bush is commander in chief, but Congress must approve funding for the war, and its patience is running out. The war – and the polls – are going so badly that it is no longer a sure thing that the administration will be able to fund continuance of the war.
There is an outside chance Congress will succeed in forcing a pullout starting in the next several months. What would the president likely do in reaction to that slap in the face?

Bush May Declare Martial Law

comment by Larry Ross
July 29, 2007
The following article by Dave Lindorff, author of "The Case For Impeachment", leaves no doubt that the American system is being geared for Bush to declare Martial law when and if he decides to proceed with the neocon plans for war with Iran. This will probably take place after a terrorist incident against the US - perhaps a US-staged 'false flag' attack on the US and blaming Iran.

Impeach Now - Or Face the End of Constitutional Democracy

by Paul Craig Roberts
July 17, 2007
Unless Congress immediately impeaches Bush and Cheney, a year from now the US could be a dictatorial police state at war with Iran.
Bush has put in place all the necessary measures for dictatorship in the form of "executive orders" that are triggered whenever Bush declares a national emergency. Recent statements by Homeland Security Chief Michael Chertoff, former Republican senator Rick Santorum and others suggest that Americans might expect a series of staged, or false flag, "terrorist" events in the near future.

The Threat Of Martial Law Is Real

by Dave Lindorff
July 27, 2007
The looming collapse of the US military in Iraq, of which a number of generals and former generals, including former Chief of Staff Colin Powell, have warned, is happening none too soon, as it my be the best hope for preventing military rule here at home.
From the looks of things, the Bush/Cheney regime has been working assiduously to pave the way for a declaration of military rule, such that at this point it really lacks only the pretext to trigger a suspension of Constitutional government. They have done this with the active support of Democrats in Congress, though most of the heavy lifting was done by the last, Republican-led Congress.

Bush Retaliates Against Michael Moore

comment by Larry Ross
July 28, 2007

Bush has found a way to retaliate against Michael Moore, both for his earlier film exposure, "Fahrenheit 9/11" and new film "Sicko" which attacks Bush's health care system and the US drug industry. Also, Bush and his neocons hate Cuba's very enlightened and comprehensive medical care system that shows up the failings of the US profit-driven healthcare system which fewer and fewer Americans can afford. No wonder they have a regime of punishments for Americans curious enough to go to Cuba and find out for themselves. Michael Moore has found and told the truth again to fellow Americans. That has made him an enemy to the Bush Administration. Letter from Michael Moore

Michael Moore Says He's Been Served    Michael Moore Subpoenaed by Bush Administration

Michael Moore said Thursday that the Bush administration has served him with a subpoena regarding his trip to Cuba during the making of his new film, "Sicko."
The Oscar-winning filmmaker, who appeared Thursday on NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," said he was notified about the subpoena at the network's studios in Burbank, Calif.

US Intelligence Record A Disaster

July 27, 2007
This is a very fine analysis of CIA operations since 1945, by Chalmers Johnson, doing a review of Tim Weiner's book "Legacy of Ashes: The History of the CIA". Chalmers Johnson is himself an authority on the CIA and international relations, author of 17 books and numerous articles. It is a long story of failures, lack of real intelligence, and counterproductive evil covert operations.

The Life and Times of the CIA

by Chalmers Johnson
July 26, 2007

Wall Street brokers, Ivy League professors, soldiers of fortune, ad men, newsmen, stunt men, second-story men, and con men on active duty for the United States. This essay is a review of "Legacy of Ashes: The History of the CIA," by Tim Weiner (Doubleday, 702 pp., $27.95).
The American people may not know it but they have some severe problems with one of their official governmental entities, the Central Intelligence Agency. Because of the almost total secrecy surrounding its activities and the lack of cost accounting on how it spends the money covertly appropriated for it within the defense budget, it is impossible for citizens to know what the CIA's approximately 17,000 employees do with, or for, their share of the yearly $44 billion-$48 billion or more spent on "intelligence." This inability to account for anything at the CIA is, however, only one problem with the Agency and hardly the most serious one either.

Nuclear Power? An Uneconomic, Dangerous Nonsense
comment from Larry Ross
July 25, 2007

This Los Angeles Times editorial is a very good summary of the relative disadvantages of investing in nuclear power reactors, versus using much more economic and available alternatives. If you add these powerful arguments to a number of others for New Zealand , the alternative energy sources win overwhelmingly. As they say: "Tax dollars are much better spent on windmills than on cooling towers"

A Warming World: No to Nukes
The Los Angeles Times
July 23, 2007

It's tempting to turn to nuclear plants to combat climate change, but alternatives are safer and cheaper.
Japan sees nuclear power as a solution to global warming, but it's paying a price. Last week, a magnitude 6.8 earthquake caused dozens of problems at the world's biggest nuclear plant, leading to releases of radioactive elements into the air and ocean and an indefinite shutdown. Government and company officials initially downplayed the incident and stuck to the official line that the country's nuclear plants are earthquake-proof, but they gave way in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Japan has a sordid history of serious nuclear accidents or spills followed by cover-ups.

US War On Iraq Planned Before Bush Became President
July 25, 2007

Although the Iraq war was planned before 9/11, as we and many others have said, this 2002 article reminds us of the details. It is staggering and stupefying that the US people, Congress, and media swallowed Bush's lies about the reasons for his war on Iraq when the true facts about Bush's motives and plans were well known. The article indicates the complicity of the media, Congress and others in helping the Bush regime implement its war plans and repeat his many lies. It is only with the help of the media that Bush lies triumphed over the truth and sold most Americans on the justification for war.

Let's Not Forget: Bush Planned Iraq 'Regime Change' Before Becoming President

15 September 2002: A SECRET blueprint for US global domination reveals that President Bush and his cabinet were planning a premeditated attack on Iraq to secure 'regime change' even before he took power in January 2001.
The blueprint, uncovered by the Sunday Herald, for the creation of a 'global Pax Americana' was drawn up for Dick Cheney (now vice- president), Donald Rumsfeld (defence secretary), Paul Wolfowitz (Rumsfeld's deputy), George W Bush's younger brother Jeb and Lewis Libby (Cheney's chief of staff). The document, entitled Rebuilding America's Defences : Strategies, Forces And Resources For A New Century, was written in September 2000 by the neo-conservative think-tank Project for the New American Century (PNAC).

  Theft of Your Civil Liberties
July 25, 2007

This is a definitive account about how the Bush Administration has used the 9/11 attack to destroy freedom and democracy in America.
They have systematically removed many civil rights and liberties of Americans and visitors and enacted a myriad of new laws and regulations. These repressive measures may well effect other governments some of whom may enact similar repressive measures. At the same time Bush has decreed and legislated greatly increased power for himself and his administration. In effect he has become a de facto dictator

Five Ways Bush's Era of Repression Has Stolen Your Liberties Since 9/11
July 24, 2007

Today's America is a much less free place than the America of 2000. Following the attacks of September 11, 2001, the Bush administration has, by word and by deed, erected an edifice of repression here in the United States.
We've been living in it ever since. And it's not a comfortable place. The government is monitoring your phone calls and can read your e-mails and open your snail mail.
The government can access records of your large financial transactions, such as buying a house.

  US Clash With Russia
comment by Larry Ross
July 25, 2007

As stated in other articles, stationing US missile defence systems on Russian borders, within old USSR satellite states, is a prescription for a new cold war that can quickly heat up and become World War III.
That and the US programme to militarize and dominate space will also start a new arms race.

Putin's War-whoop: The impending clash with Russia
by Mike Whitney
June 22, 2007

What is a "unipolar" world?
It is a world in which there is one master, one sovereign--- one center of authority, one center of force, one center of decision-making. And at the end of the day this is pernicious not only for all those within this system, but also for the sovereign itself because it destroys itself from within.
It has nothing in common with democracy, which is the power of the majority in respect to the interests and opinions of the minority.

New Cold War Could Quickly Become Hot
July 24, 2007

Relations are deteriorating between Russia and the US due to a number of factors explored by Mike Whitney in his following article. Both nations have their nuclear missiles on 'hair-trigger' alert status, ready to be launched at each other "by accident, miscalculation, act of madness" as President Kennedy warned in 1962, or today's accepted US Congressional legalised nuclear madness of an intentional pre-emptive surprise nuclear attack. Bush has his new nuclear doctrines in place to launch pre-emptive nuclear war at whoever his executive decides threaten the USA. Any excuse will do and no facts or proofs are needed. The Bush regime doesn't even have to follow its original lie-based script, but can innovate with new lies and excuses as it did with the Iraq War since 2003.

RAF fighter jets were scrambled to intercept two Russian strategic bombers heading for British airspace yesterday, as the spirit of the Cold War returned to the North Atlantic once again. The incident, described as rare by the RAF, served as a telling metaphor for the stand-off between London and Moscow over the murder of Alexander Litvinenko.” (Times Online, Richard Beeston; “RAF scrambles to intercept Russian bombers, 7-18-07)

US Congressman Compares Bush To Hitler
comment from Larry Ross
July 23, 2007

Although Congressman Keith Ellison did not directly accuse the Bush Administration of masterminding the 9/11 attack, he said many of Bush's actions afterward were very similar to those of Adolph Hitler who seized dictatorial power and waged unjustified wars, after the Nazis had burned down the Reichstag. If more US politicians state similar truths, and perhaps reveal more about the mystery of 9/11 it is a step toward stopping the continuing crimes and wars of the Bush Administration.

US Citizens Act To Impeach Bush & Cheney
July 21, 2007

After DowningStreet.org is acting to impeach the criminals who have deceived the American people thus violating the US Constitution. The Bush regime continues to violate both the Constitution and Internal law by illegally invading Iraq and continuing to murder thousands of Iraqis for resisting their invasion. Calling them "terrorists" is a subterfuge designed to further confuse and deceive the conditioned American people and gain their acceptance and approval for Bush's crimes. AfterDowningStreet.org is neither confused nor deceived. 2+2 are still 4 and this is 2007 not Orwell's "1984". They are trying to get the message through to the American people that their world - the 'real world' - is threatened with unprecedented disaster. The criminal regime should be impeached immediately before they gone on to commit much greater crimes. After.Downing.Street.org needs all the help people everywhere can give them.

Democrats are their own worst enemy
by Dave Lindorff
July 20, 2007

If it weren't so depressing, it would be entertaining to watch the loathed, ridiculed and remarkably unpopular Bush administration continue to run circles around the supposedly ascendant Democrats in Congress.
Now that Democrats have provided Bush with full summer funding for his outrageous and doomed escalation of the Iraq War, they are finding themselves incapable of stopping even that affront to the American public, which last November made it clear it wanted this bloody madness in Iraq to end.

Bush Uses War To Make US A Dictatorship
July 19, 2007

The fears of America 's Founding Fathers have come to pass in the Bush Administration as the following brilliant article shows.
Congress has been corrupted and has licensed Bush to make war as he pleases against anyone. They have forfeited their controlling role on the executive branch of government. The American people have lost the services of an effective congress and now have one option. That is impeachment of Bush and Cheney before they create even greater disasters.

King George W.: James Madison's Nightmare
by Robert Scheer
July 17, 2007

George W. Bush is the imperial president that James Madison and other founders of this great republic warned us about.  He lied the nation into precisely the “foreign entanglements” that George Washington feared would destroy the experiment in representative government, and he has championed a spurious notion of security over individual liberty, thus eschewing the alarms of Thomas Jefferson as to the deprivation of the inalienable rights of free citizens.  But most important, he has used the sledgehammer of war to obliterate the separation of powers that James Madison enshrined in the U.S. Constitution.

Terrorism Brought on by Bush's Scare Tactics.
comment by Larry Ross
July 19, 2007

It's good to see the NYT coming out with some limited criticism of Bush's Iraq war and his domestic scare tactics.
It's a pity it is so little and 4 years late.
The NYT does not apologize for endlessly repeating the lies which the Bush Administration invented justify the war. They don't mention that the war is based on lies and is still totally illegal. In fact they accept the war and write with the arrogant assumption that their readers also accept the war lies as facts of life not to be questioned. They confine their arguments to the methods Bush uses to try and win his illegal war. Sometimes they express a little worry about 3,900 US military casualties. But never any concern about the continuing murder by the Bush Administration of some 655,000 Iraqis.
Nevertheless the occasional glimmer of light and independence from America 's supposedly greatest newspaper is welcome, even if fleeting.
Like most US mass media, the NYT repeats Bush lies and accusations about Iran , carefully preparing and conditioning reader's minds to accept Bush's coming war on Iran.  What kind of independent journalism is that?

  The Politics of Fear
by NYT
July 18, 2007

It had to happen. President Bush's bungling of the war in Iraq has been the talk of the summer. On Capitol Hill, some of the more reliable Republicans are writing proposals to force Mr. Bush to change course. A showdown vote is looming in the Senate. Enter, stage right, the fear of terrorism.

Lies, More Lies and Damn Lies
July 18, 2007

This article describes how the increased conditioning of gullible Americans about the alleged 'terrorist threat' makes them support the Republicans they believe will better protect them. It also prepares the ground for a real US-staged 'false flag' attack on the US, which the Bush regime might arrange to justify their much-heralded war on Iran. That most Americans are dangerously misinformed and gullible is revealed by recent polls that found that 60% of the American public and 90% of US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan believe Saddam Hussein colluded with bin Laden to launch the alleged 9/11 attacks on US.

Lies, More Lies and Damn Lies
July 17, 2007

As Americans turn increasingly against President George Bush's calamitous war in Iraq, and revolt spreads through Republican ranks, the White House is again resorting to its tried-and-true ploy of fanning grossly inflated fears of terrorism.
The president just made two preposterous claims last week that insult the intelligence of his listeners. First, Bush insisted US forces in Iraq are fighting "the same people who staged 9/11."

  Analysis of Bush Dictatorship
July 18, 2007

It is really a matter of objectively considering the facts, cutting through the double think, propaganda and party loyalties to make an honest analysis - and perhaps face some very unpleasant facts and suspicions. Some of the best analysts are from the right of the political spectrum - people like John Paul Roberts and Morgan Reynolds. I really respect and feature their work although I would be labelled as from the left of the political spectrum. In fact I'm neither right nor left and reject this kind of 'don't think' labelling.
The labels 'right and left' when applied to people or political thoughts often inhibits a rational consideration of the issue at hand. The tendency is to generate an immediate bias and then dismiss the issue without consideration.

General George Bush: America's Presidential-Military Dictator
by Jo Swift
July 16, 2007
Bush emphasized the role of the military as a counterweight to public opinion. He outlined a concept of presidential power that upholds the military as a critical “constituency” rising above, and placed in opposition to, the American people.
Every would-be dictator claims that his authoritarian measures are taken to ensure national security. Everything else must be sacrificed, including democratic rights. This is the basic line that has been utilized by the government since 9/11 to lay siege to constitutionally protected democratic rights, in the name of the “war on terror”.

  Orwell's 1984 Re-enacted
July 18, 2007

Paul Craig Roberts has done a masterly job at exposing Bush's changing lies to justify the Iraq war and coming war on Iran in a very similar way that George Orwell did in his futuristic book "1984"
It explains why Orwell's book achieved such fame - people knew he was right.
Unfortunately the American population is forever gullible. They accept the changing lies just as Orwell's population accepted them in 1984.
With a wealth of experience in Washington , and having served in the Reagan Administration, Paul Craig Roberts is well-qualified to make this comparison.

A Free Press or a Ministry of Truth?
by Paul Craig Roberts
July 17, 2007

In his novel 1984 , George Orwell portrayed a future time in which the explanations of recent events and earlier history are continually changed to meet Big Brother's latest purpose. Previous explanations disappear down "the memory hole."
Sound familiar? Any American who pays attention can observe the identical phenomenon occurring in the U.S. today.

  False Flag on Iran?
July 18, 2007

The US has already made a number of false charges against Iran - more than enough to justify a war. Bush may feel he does not need to stage a false flag attack on the US and blame Iran in order to justify his planned attack. He has already invented enough lies to blame Iran , as he did before his attack on Iraq. Congress has given Bush an open door for a new war and the authority he needs to make a new war on Iran on top of the deepening quagmire he made in Iraq.

  Silent US Bombs On Iraq
July 18, 2007

The US military and civilian war makers in Washington have learned lessons from the Vietnam War - how to minimize domestic outrage and protest. One tactic is to strictly control the media and reportage of their bombing raids on civilian centres - and the casualties of innocent men, women and children in Iraq. What the US people don't know about, they can't protest or be spurred to action. The Pentagon doesn't want another Vietnam, where US barbarity was featured in the Press and TV every night. The US people could not stomach this and responded with giant demonstrations which helped stop the war.

  The Silence of the Bombs
by Norman Solomon
June 12, 2007

Three years have passed since most Americans came to the conclusion that the Iraq war was a "mistake." Reporting the results of a Gallup poll in June 2004, USA Today declared: "It is the first time since Vietnam that a majority of Americans has called a major deployment of US forces a mistake." And public opinion continued to move in an antiwar direction. But such trends easily coexist with a war effort becoming even more horrific.

  Sudan, the CIA and Oil
July 18, 2007

Whereas the CIA and it's interests in using Sudan as a source of intelligence for the Iraq war is featured in this article, there is not a word about the very great interest the US has in Sudan's oil. This oil interest and the policies that flow from it, are mentioned in some of the other articles on this site. The immorality and two-faced policies of the US toward Sudan and the very low priority it gives to the genocide against Darfur, indicates that Oil takes priority over the blood of men, women and children in Darfur. That the following article only mentioned the CIA spy interests and not a word about oil seems to indicate that the media prefers not to alert it's readers about this vitally important connection in the formation of US foreign policy.

Sudan Is Secret Partner of US
by Greg Miller and Josh Meyer
June 11, 2007

Khartoum supplies information to the CIA on insurgents in Iraq.
Sudan has secretly worked with the CIA to spy on the insurgency in Iraq - an example of how the United States has continued to cooperate with the Sudanese regime even while condemning its role in the killing of tens of thousands of civilians in Darfur.
President Bush has condemned the killings in Darfur as genocide and has imposed sanctions on Sudan's government. But some critics say the administration has soft-pedaled the sanctions to preserve its extensive intelligence collaboration with Sudan.

  The Failing Empire
July 17, 2007

America is failing in Iraq, even while it destroys the nation it invaded. It is destroying itself, its economy and any pretence at civilized values, while it claims to be spreading 'freedom and democracy'. In fact it is spreading death, destruction and corrupted client regimes it labels as 'democratically elected'.

  Unquestioned Right to Dominate
by Lamis Andoni
July 6, 2007

America is a modern Rome: an arrogant empire that does not understand the limits of power. I guess no empire really does. This is why they rise and fall. It is not an American trait; it is the nature of unchecked power. Yet in his book, Murphy tries to construct a moral ethos for American hegemony and aggressive drive to dominate the world. Unfortunately the basic pre'ise of his argument goes against history.

  Beware the Bear, America
by Lamis Andoni
February 23, 2007

While America fought lost wars, The Bear was awakened! Moving from a unipolar world to a multipolar one provides needed balance, but also might precipitate a new kind of Cold War over oil and gas. Russia is using energy as its means of regaining international prestige.
One of the main reasons for NATO expansion, from America's strategic point of view, was to prevent Russia from restoring its former influence. But Moscow's new diplomatic offensive has made large holes in America's containment policy.

Oil Policies in Sudan and Genocide
July 17, 2007

The following is a number of articles dealing with global oil resources and the policies of different nations toward these resources. Of particular interest is the battle between states for control of Sudan's oil - one of the richest oil fields in Africa. At the same time the Government of Sudan is commiting genocide against the population of Darfur. That results in two-faced policies by governments wanting good relations with Sudan to get access to it's oil, while appearing to pacify human rights organizations by condemning Sudan for its genocide against the population of Darfur. As in Iraq, it seems to be the oil interests that triumph over human rights.

Oil and Natural Gas in Conflict

"Black gold" often brings hardship and misery to the societies where it is found. Petroleum-producing countries are plagued by corrupt and authoritarian governments, lopsided and unsustainable economic development and violent conflict. Foreign powers and their huge multinational oil companies often maneuver for control of the oil fields through clandestine operations or outright military intervention. In addition, disaffected rebels challenge governments in hope of winning a share of the lucrative oil revenues.

  Increasing Nuclear War Risks
July 17, 2007

... Due to a 'false flag' incident in which nation One arranges a massive secret attack against nation Two, but it is made to look as if the attack came from   nation Three. The purpose is to supply the incentive and justification for nation two to make war on nation three. The entire exercise is presumed to benefit nation One - so long as their treachery is not discovered. A variation on this strategy is hinted at in many articles on a US-Israeli war on Iran.

by Karl Ritter
June 11, 2007

The world's top military powers are gradually dismantling their stockpiles of nuclear arms, but all are developing new missiles and warheads with smaller yields that could increase the risk of atomic warfare, a Swedish research institute said Monday.
In its annual report on military forces around the globe, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute also said the rising number of nations with nuclear weapons is raising the risk such arms could be used.

This article by Professor Hossein-zadeh is a masterpiece which illuminates how the military-industrial-political complex works. It shows why it is a far greater threat today than when President Eisenhower warned about it in his farewell speech in 1961. Its short term success depends on the creation of new enemies and threats. These are used to justify wars, increasing military power, arms racing and military spending. In the long run this run-away situation will degrade and may destroy America . So long as this system rules it will gain momentum and strength and be more difficult to reverse. Always new enemies and crisis will be invented to curb popular pressures for change and reform. And the American people can always be fooled into submission by an array of threats, crisis, lies and tricks invented by highly skilled manipulators and propagandists. I think a useful analogy might be to compare the US to a speeding locomotive, out of control with the driver paralysed due to a heart attack. The throttle is jammed in maximum speed position so the locomotive is accelerating. Eventually it goes off the rails or blows up.

  Parasitic Imperialism
by Ismael Hossein-zadeh

How recent U.S. wars of choice, driven largely by war profiteering, are plundering not only defenseless peoples and their resources abroad, but also the overwhelming majority of U.S. citizens and their resources at home.

  Bush Normalises Torture
July 14, 2007

James Bamford, author and long-time expert on the CIA says the recent CIA released "crown jewels" of CIA operations from 1950 into the 1970's, "seems so minor compared to what the CIA is doing today".

  Architect of Torture
by Nat Hentoff
July 10, 2007

... Among the many examples of how the CIA today makes the agency detailed in the "crown jewels" documents look pallid by comparison is the system of torture created by the Bush administration in the treatment of suspected terrorists. Along with the Iraq War, the CIA's "renditions" and "black sites" greatly add to what Julianne Smith of the Center for Strategic and International Studies calls "the rather dark shadow [cast] on our relationship with our European allies," and much of the rest of the world.

  Exposure of the CIA
July 12, 2007

This is a rare jewel to have a potential assassination victim, Fidel Castro, commenting on the CIA's 'Family Jewels' self-exposure and a few of their numerous attempts to assassinate him.
Although this exposure and Castro's comments do expose a lot of sensational, unbelievable plots and assassinations, and the blackest of black operations, it covers up and omits far more, and probably far worse crimes against humanity.  As Castro points out, the CIA actions today are far more extensive under Bush than any previous US president. It underlines the fact that Western society really is becoming more like Orwell's book '1984' every day. Read it and weep for the future of humanity under the criminal Bush regime and what is likely to follow.

Fidel Castro: Reflections from a Target of the CIA
by Fidel Castro, CounterPunch
July 11, 2007

It was announced that the CIA would be declassifying hundreds of pages on illegal actions that included plans to eliminate the leaders of foreign governments. Suddenly the publication is halted and it is delayed one day. No coherent explanation was given. Perhaps someone in the White House looked over the material.
The first package of declassified documents goes by the name of "The Family Jewels"; it consists of 702 pages on illegal CIA actions between 1959 and 1973. About 100 pages of this part have been deleted. It deals with actions that were not authorized by any law, plots to assassinate other leaders, experiments with drugs on human beings to control their minds, spying on civil activists and journalists, among other similar activities that were expressly prohibited.

A Third US Aircraft Carrier to Boost Attack on Iran?
July 12, 2007

If the US is planning to launch a pre-emptive nuclear attack on Iran soon, they would strenuously deny it, and strenuously deny that their unprecedented military build up off Iran's coast, including this third aircraft carrier is in preparation for such a strike. The whole strategy behind a pre-emptive strike is that the intended target is caught by surprise and doesn't know what's coming. It is quite vital to the attacker, that the victim is unprepared for both the attack and to make any possible retaliation.

A third US carrier, the USS Enterprise Strike Group is speeding towards the Persian Gulf
June 22, 2007

According to DEBKA file's military sources, the US naval build-up off the shores of Iran marks rising military tensions in the region, accentuated by last week's Hamas victory which has endowed Iran with a military foothold on Israel's southwestern border.
The USS Enterprise CVN 65-Big E Strike Group will join the USS Stennis and the USS Nimitz carriers, building up the largest sea, air, marine concentration the United States has ever deployed opposite Iran. This goes towards making good on the assurances of four carriers US Vice President Dick Cheney offered the Gulf and Middle East nations during his May tour of the region.

  Bush Propaganda Exposed as Lies
July 12, 2007

The McClatchy papers have revealed as lies, what the major US mass media print as truth. The lies Bush is still using to justify his illegal war on Iraq, are blowing back as exposed lies. But even McClatchy while exposing the lies, are careful not to call Bush a liar. That is a conclusion the reader has to come to. Bush is using these lies to justify the continued unjustifiable, slaughter of Iraqis and the preparations for an endless long-term war and still wider war with Iran. The media usually repeat Bush lies, and totally phoney justifications for war, as acceptable facts of life without critical comment. No wonder most Americans are a confused, ill-informed living in a media-generated bubble of ignorance.

Bush again links Iraq violence to 9/11
by Jonathan S. Landay
July 11, 2007

Struggling to stem growing opposition to his Iraq policy even among Republicans, President Bush contended anew Tuesday that the perpetrators of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in the United States are the same as al Qaida in Iraq, a violent Iraqi insurgent group that didn't exist until after the 2003 U.S.-led invasion.
It was the second time in two weeks that Bush has made the link in an apparent attempt to transform lingering fear of another U.S. terrorist attack into backing for the current buildup of U.S. troops in Iraq.
"Al Qaida is doing most of the spectacular bombings, trying to incite sectarian violence," Bush told a business group in Cleveland, Ohio. "The same people that attacked us on September the 11th is a crowd that is now bombing people, killing innocent men, women and children, many of whom are Muslims."

Internet makes 6 billion people one family - So do 26,000 nuclear weapons.
July 11, 2007

One secret decision can destroy our human family in hours. Expanding Bush's illegal wars to Iran, means using nuclear weapons. What peace people do in New York or Washington (see below) to end and prevent expanded wars and impeach the war criminals is also acting for you, me and everyone - everywhere. Use the Internet to encourage or help peace actions in New York and Washington The time is up, the countdown has started. The 3rd US aircraft carrier fleet is steaming toward the Persian Gulf. Troops Out Now Coalition  Politicians won't end the war - Elections won't stop the war - Only the People will stop the war!

Rally Monday July 16, Times Square - Troops Out Now! SEPT 22- 29: It's time to move from Protest to Resistance:
In just a few days, General Petreus will provide a preliminary report to Congress detailing the failure of the Bush "surge" to crush the resistance of the Iraqi people.  Politicians of both parties are scurrying to find positions that will allow them to publicly distance themselves from the failed attempt to colonize Iraq, while they continue to vote for funding for the war.

Israel: Influence on US Peace Movement and US Mid-East Policies
July 10, 2007

This is one of many articles I see dealing with the influence of Israel on US Mid-East policies, and how deeply it's agents and activists have penetrated US society. Not mentioned but very important is how Christian Zionists and 'End Time' religionists, link Israel and their favourite myth of 'God's final battle of Armageddon' to Israel's preservation. It is a potent mix in which George Bush as a fervent Christian Fundamentalist End Times believer, plays a vital role.

US Middle East Wars: Social Opposition and Political Impotence
by James Petras
July 4, 2007

Everywhere I visit from Copenhagen to Istanbul, Patagonia to Mexico City, journalists and academics, trade unionists and businesspeople, as well as ordinary citizens, inevitably ask me why the US public tolerates the killing of over a million Iraqis over the last two decades, and thousands of Afghans since 2001?

Dangerous Criminals Will Commmit More Crimes
July 10, 2007

Bush and Cheney continue to commit huge war crimes based on lies. They are planning perhaps the greatest crime in history - attacking Iran with nuclear weapons and inventing a number of excuses to justify this. In spite of media and Democratic party efforts to whitewash these crimes and lies, or not even admit they exist, an increasing number of Americans are realising this and want Bush and Cheney impeached as the following articles indicate. Many believe Bush-Cheney lies to demonise Iran, faithfully repeated by the media. Led by Bush's neocons, they already call for such an assault.

  Liberties Lost
comment by Larry Ross
July 10, 2007

It is refreshing to see a mainstream US paper like the Baltimore Sun, actually spell out some of the evil things the Bush conspiracy is doing to America. Under their very noses, America is being converted into a fascist state. It's time for Americans to stop this conspiracy. More should join the movement to impeach Bush and Cheny before it's too late.

  Liberties lost
from the Baltimore Sun
July 4, 2007

Besides all his other gifts, Thomas Jefferson appears to have been prophetic.
In his first presidential inaugural address in 1801, he ticked off a long list of essential principles of government, featuring highlights of the Bill of Rights, and called preservation of the government "in its whole constitutional vigor" the "anchor of our peace at home and safety abroad." These principles "should be the creed of our political faith," he said. "Should we wander from them in moments of error or of alarm, let us hasten to retrace our steps and to regain the road which alone leads to peace, liberty and safety."

  The War On Conciousness
July 9, 2007

I totally agree with this essay. In many ways it is very similar to what I have been saying on my website which covers many of the subjects mentioned. My only worry is that there is not the time or resources required to reach enough people that will somehow prevent the Bush regime from carrying out their agenda. ...
Bush is a committed 'End Times' believer, who thinks he is doing God's will by bring on Armageddon. This ending is looked forward to by a powerful minority of Americans. Their leaders have access to, and much influence on Bush.

  The War on Consciousness
by Paul Levy
2007

We are truly in a war. It is not the war we imagine we are in, which is the way our true adversaries want it. It is not a foreign war against a foreign enemy. It is a war on consciousness, a war on our own minds. The global war on terror that is being fought around the world is an embodied reflection in the material world of a deeper, more fundamental war that is going on in the realm of consciousness itself.

  Farewell to Arms Control
July 8, 2007

Scott Ritter as a Chief Weapons Inspector in Iraq, was in a position to know how the US and UK subverted the process from the beginning to facilitate their planned war with Iraq. Ritter then shows how the staffing of a future arms control regime under UN control was well advanced, until scrapped by the US and UK who preferred a world at war instead. It is important to realise that the military-industrial complexes of both countries are dependant on a series of wars into the future to maintain the financial health and profits of their armaments research and manufacturing industries. These are fundamental driving elements of Western culture and identity. They cannot maintain their lead in weapons and plans for global domination, without active wars as a catalyst. Scott Ritter opened new doors of understanding and concern with his deep experience of the machiavellian workings of the real policies of the US and UK.

  A Farewell to Arms Control
by Scott Ritter
July 5, 2007

The organization that was at the center of the maelstrom of the Iraqi weapons-of-mass-destruction fiasco, responsible for bringing the world to the brink of war on no fewer than a half-dozen occasions during the 1990s, and then unable to prevent a war in March 2003, has departed the global scene.  It left not with a dramatic flair befitting its former status, but rather with barely a whimper, reduced to nothing more than a historical footnote in the grand tragedy that has become Iraq.

Urgent: Impeach Cheney Before War With Iran
July 7, 2007

Sheila Samples has issued a very powerful call to "Impeach Cheney Now" before he is able to initiate even bigger crimes against America and the world.
The US war planned for Iran is next on Cheney's list. If he gets away with this one, we may have past the point of no return.
There would be no going back or investigation. Iran and the Middle East would be in flames with millions dead and dieing. The world would be totally at the mercy of a series of disastrous consequences amid the confusion that would follow. Any ideas of Impeachment then, would just be a joke.
Pre-emptive impeachment action now is the only way future major crimes could be prevented.

  Strike The Root
by Sheila Samples
July 6, 2007

Recently, Nova M Radio's Mike Malloy suggested the lethargy that appears to have descended on the American people is more "rage fatigue" than a lack of knowledge or comprehension of the damage wrought by this administration. I agree, although for many of us, rather than fatigue, it's more an inability to "focus" on any single atrocity about which to be enraged. There are just too many incoming horrors at any one time. We are in the throes of a national paralysis....
Dick Cheney must be impeached -- now -- before he lashes out from the dark side, and Iran is aflame; its terrified citizens displaced, dying -- dead.

  Depression, Doomsday and Peace
July 7, 2007

Scientifically I contemplate the facts, such as:
The 9 arsenals of nuclear weapons with enough fire power to eliminate humanity many times over. Since 1945 famous people and the most informed experts have warned humanity about the nuclear arms race and the many ways it could mean sudden extinction for the human race. That's 62 years of warnings, but nuclear weapons have proliferated and criminal politicians want to use them.
That criminal minds, sociopaths and psychopaths, now control the world's greatest arsenals in the USA, UK and Israel.
... So I contemplate the race toward extinction and wonder “what can I do?”

Australia Admits: It's Blood for Oil
July 6, 2007

It was obvious from the beginning in 2003, when independent experts and everyone in the peace movement warned that possession of Iraq's oil was Bush's main reason for making war on Iraq. The media dutifully suppressed peace movement warnings at that time, and still do. Their loyalty is to the Bush regime and repeating its lies. They have a de facto ban on any other explanations of Bush's lengthy conspiracy and wars.

Nelson: Oil a Factor in Iraq Deployment
from The Age
July 5, 2007

The Howard Government has today admitted that securing oil supplies is a factor in Australia's continued military involvement in Iraq.
Defence Minister Brendan Nelson said today oil was a factor in Australia's contribution to the unpopular war, as "energy security" and stability in the Middle East would be crucial to the nation's future.
Speaking ahead of today's key foreign policy speech by Prime Minister John Howard, Dr Nelson said defence was about protecting the economy as well as physical security.

  US Fascism Today
comment by Larry Ross
July 6, 2007

This excellent paper sums up some of the fascist evils that BushCo are unleashing on the US public.
Although the polls show 77% of Americans "want the troops home", and disagree with his war to varying degrees, they are not taking significant action against the BushCo regime.
In many ways they seem apathetic and accepting of BushCo lies and of a quite obvious trend to impose fascism over American Democracy.

"No one man can terrorize a whole nation unless we are all his accomplices." - Edward R. Murrow
And so it goes. The 4th of July is here with its parades and "what America means to me" essays, and picnics and fireworks, and all those pretty speeches about freedom and democracy and the true meaning of Independence Day. But it is all a facade. A lie.

Great American Peace Lady Condemns BushCo
comment by Larry Ross
July 6, 2007

Cindy Sheehan returns to lead a peace walk from her old base in Crawford Texas to Washington D.C.
Like many Americans Cindy is outraged by Bush's spurning of the Court's decision to imprison Gordon Libby.
Once again she wants to focus America 's attention on the criminal BushCo conspiracy leading America toward fascism and more wars. She, like so many others, are victims of a series of BushCo lies, which deceived people into supporting an expanding war quagmire in Iraq and many other related crimes.

Cindy Sheehan to Lead March From Crawford to Washington
by Angela K. Brown, Associated Press
July 3, 2007

Fort Worth, Texas - Cindy Sheehan will return to her protest site near President Bush's ranch in Crawford this weekend to bid farewell to the peace movement - but not with an anti-war rally.
Instead, Sheehan will sell some camping items, gather with friends from previous demonstrations and celebrate her 50th birthday in Crawford, about 100 miles south of Fort Worth. Then she will hand over the deed of her 5-acre lot to its new owner, radio talk-show host Bree Walker.
"I feel great," Sheehan told The Associated Press on Tuesday by telephone en route to Texas. "I'm feeling like it was the right decision for me. I feel like it was the best thing to do."

Israeli Occupation Condemned by Uri Avnery
July 5, 2007

Uri Avnery is one of the best writers on Israel's policies, wars and illegal occupation of Palestine. He exposes the criminal and barbarous treatment of Palestinians by Israel, supported by the Bush Administration. He described Tony Blair, as Bush's obedient poodle sent to the Middle East as an Ambassador to implement the policies of Bush, and Israel. Avnery exposes that Israel's occupation of Palestine is hardly mentioned in the media. The reason for this is that Israel wants people to learn to regard occupation of Palestine as Israel's right, rather than a continuing aggression. He is a very insightful, brilliant writer.

  The Dirty Word
by Uri Avnery
July 2, 2007

THERE NEVER was a darker Middle East summit meeting. The darkest there can be.
The four leaders at Sharm al-Sheik did not sit together at an intimate round table. Each one sat alone behind a huge table of his own. That ensured a striking separation between them. The four long tables hardly touched. Each one of the leaders, with his assistants behind him, sat like a solitary island in a vast sea.
All four - Hosni Mubarak, King Abdallah of Jordan, Ehud Olmert and Mahmoud Abbas - bore a severe countenance. Throughout the official part of the conference, not a single smile could be seen.

Is Bush's Religion Calling for Global Geneocide?
July 2, 2007

'End Timers' Urge Bush -'Bring on God's Nuclear Doomsday' and Rapture to Heaven for the Faithful. Bush's 'End Times' supporters believe this would be the biblical Armageddon, as foretold in an obscure passage in the Bible. They believe Bush is God's chosen one, and are urging him to make it all happen. They believe it will result in a rapture of the chosen faithful few to heaven. Almost everything Bush has done in the Middle East, and not done, is consistent with these religious bunkum beliefs.

Bush, Mideast Wars and End-Time Prophecy
by JP Briggs II, Ph.D., and Thomas D. Williams
June 29, 2007

President George W. Bush has become dangerously steeped in ideas of Armageddon, the Apocalypse, an imminent war with Satanic forces in the Middle East, and an urgency to construct an American theocracy to fulfill God's end-of-days plan, according to close observers.
Historians and investigative journalists following the "end-time Christian" movement have grown alarmed at the impact it may be having on Bush's Middle East policies, including the current war in Iraq, the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian crisis, the strife in Lebanon and the administration's repeated attempts to find a cause for war against Iran.
