As the war in Iraq drags on into a fourth brutal year, the same politicians who led the U.S. to war in 2003 are preparing for a new war --this time against the people of Iran.
Once again using the pretext of "weapons of mass destruction," the U.S. is moving the forces into place in preparation for a possible attack. The USS Eisenhower strike force, with some 800 Tomahawk cruise missiles and a fleet of bombers, has moved into the Persian Gulf. A second carrier group, led by the USS Stennis, is now steaming toward the region.  The London Telegraph reported this spring that  "a major American attack on Iran's nuclear sites would kill up to 10,000 people and lead to war in the Middle East."

Unprecedented warnings from the scientific community indicate that the planet's ecosystems are stressed near the point of collapse; business as usual is no longer possible, and we have little time left to respond. Civilization is also approaching a nexus of social crises. All of these problems result from the nature of capitalism, and we cannot expect solutions from political leaders or corporations. Therefore, this author is soliciting advice from experts and from anyone who might have suggestions as to what measures can people of limited means undertake to ease their transition into a post-petroleum world. Submissions will be published in a book, the profits of which will be used to inform people and possibly provide grants in order to help people prepare for the coming transition.

This is an excellent statement and action we can use in New Zealand to help Americans stop another unjust, illegal war by the Bush Administration against a non-nuclear state. I hope NZ labour unions, groups and individuals will take advantage of this fine initiative.

The following resolution, opposing U.S. military action and threats against Iran, was passed unanimously by the San Francisco Labor Council.

Evan Peterson presents a comprehensive case for impeachment of Bush and what is being done to achieve this objective. Bush continues to do a great deal of damage to America and the world and plans to do much more if Americans allow him to continue in office. The problem is that mainstream America is not aware that the problem is so very critical and that Bush must be stopped before he takes the US to a point of no return.
Unfortunately the mass media is still a meek handmaiden to the Bush regime, repeating or covering up all its lies and suppressing facts and discussion about the many frauds and very real crises Bush has unleashed on America.

You may remember ex-CIA agent Ralph McGeehee who toured NZ for us back in the 80's. He said, and books by ex-CIA people also confirm that, the CIA often uses right-wing religious groups like EBs as a cover to channel funds to groups in countries the CIA wants to influence. In NZ we do know the US wants to get rid of NZ N-Free legislation and get NZ back on track sending NZ troops to US wars and hosting their warships. So it makes sense to suspect that perhaps the CIA has a role in supplying money and direction to NZ EBs for this purpose.

There's a certain irony in that while papers in New Zealand devote their first few pages to the demise of Don, across the Tasman the Melbourne Age leads with a story about Exclusive Brethren involvement in the Victoria state elections.
It's the same old stuff. The EBs have taken out advertising in the Age and the Herald Sun attacking the Greens.
So what is the problem with the Exclusive Brethren campaigning ...

The American people have been deceived and shanghaied into becoming tools of a criminal conspiracy...
What has happened to our U.S.A. that was a beacon of hope to the world's impoverished, oppressed masses? It could have led in solving the world's real problems and led humanity toward a secure, prosperous, and just world.
Instead it took another road - the road of evil and the blackest fascism and mass murder. The conspiracy has even increased its genocidal preparations with new nuclear doctrines that 'legally' allow it to wage pre-emptive nuclear slaughter of people, not by the thousand as in Iraq , but now by the million in Iran and elsewhere. The compliant mass propaganda media made sure this information, its implications, and criticism of it, was not given to the people.

My Lai , Vietnam , 1968. Haditha , Iraq , 2005. Rumsfeld, Cheney and Bush hate it when anyone mentions these two events — these two war crimes — in the same breath. All the more reason to examine them closely, to see that they have the same basis that they spell out the same lesson.

Army chief called in to explain 'quit Iraq' appeal

TONY BLAIR'S foreign policy was in tatters last night after the head of the Army said that the continued presence of British troops in Iraq was responsible for bloodshed at home and abroad.

General Sir Richard Dannall's sensational attack comes only shortly after he took over as Chief of The General Staff.

Armed Forces 'Cowed Into Silence'

Blair's wars have been marked by shameless attempts to stifle voices from the frontline. We have a right to hear them.
The fifth anniversary of the invasion of Afghanistan has been marked by two significant statements from the British government. Tony Blair said that soldiers resent relentlessly sceptical coverage of the struggle: "They get fed up, as does everyone else, when it is all presented in a negative light."

. . . For example they could;
1.  accept an offer of enriched uranium from another source, to allay the false and groundless suspicions the U.S. has engendered in the world community.
2. They could offer to allow more inspections of Iran by the international community, in order to show that everything Iran had said was true.
3. Another even more dramatic policy step would be for Iran to announce it will officially recognise the reality of Israel's continued existence and will work with all nations to make a peaceful, secure middle east etc.

Does Bush Think War with Iran Is Preordained?

The aircraft carrier Eisenhower, accompanied by the guided-missile cruiser USS Anzio, guided-missile destroyer USS Ramage, guided-missile destroyer USS Mason and the fast-attack submarine USS Newport News, is, as I write, making its way to the Straits of Hormuz off Iran. The ships will be in place to strike Iran by the end of the month. It may be a bluff. It may be a feint. It may be a simple show of American power. But I doubt it.

Whatever U.S. Senators do, or don't do, can effect you. The President of Iran has reached out to President Bush offering a dialogue of peace instead of preparations for war. My hope is that President Bush will choose to talk, and pull back from starting an escalating war with Iran that could suddenly become nuclear and end the human race. Why on earth would he do that?

For sometime now I have been thinking, how one can justify the undeniable contradictions that exist in the international arena -- which are being constantly debated, specially in political forums and amongst university students. Many questions remain unanswered. These have prompted me to discuss some of the contradictions and questions, in the hopes that it might bring about an opportunity to redress them.

NEW YORK -- Tens of thousands of protesters marched Saturday through lower Manhattan to demand an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, just hours after this month's GI death toll reached 70.
Cindy Sheehan, a vociferous critic of the war whose soldier son died in Iraq, joined in the march, as did actress Susan Sarandon and the Rev. Jesse Jackson.
''End this war, bring the troops home,'' read one sign lifted by marchers on the sunny afternoon, three years after the war began.
Organizers said 300,000 people marched, although a police spokesman declined to give an estimate. There were no reports of arrests.
''We are here today because the war is illegal, immoral and unethical,'' said the Rev. Al Sharpton. ''We must bring the troops home.'' 'They're going to lie to us again'
Organizers said the march was also meant to oppose military action against Iran, which is facing criticism over its nuclear program. The event was organized by the group United for Peace and Justice.

.....We seem to never learn from our past mistakes. Today’s neo-cons are... idealistically misled and aggressive in remaking the Middle East..... Even given the horrendous costs of the Iraq War and the unintended consequences that plague us today, the neo-cons are eager to expand their regime-change policy to Iran by force.
The obvious shortcomings of our regime change and occupation of Afghanistan are now readily apparent. The Taliban was ousted from power, but they have regrouped and threaten the delicate stability that now exists in that country. Opium drug production is once again a major operation, with drugs lords controlling a huge area of the country outside Kabul.

Rob will discuss the role of dissent in U.S. political history focusing on the lives of courageous people he has painted. Most of the freedoms that Americans think are guaranteed by their Constitution and laws have had to be fought for --- repeatedly--- by individuals and rganizations.

Britain and other members of U.S. military alliances have been complicit in D.U. usage and aware of the low-level radiation effects.
D.U. microscopic particles have been spread by air currents to Europe and Britain. It has a half life of 4,500,000,000 years, so can continue to spread over coming decades and centuries.. It can infect people with a number of fatal diseases as the following articles show, slowly killing or incapacitating many of them. It lasts forever and there is no cure.
Using such weapons is an attack on all humanity and all nations, as the particles will drift around the world forever.
ACTION ALERT:

Guantanamo, with it’s illegal imprisonment of innocent people, torture, forced feeding, shaming, lack of trials, should be closed. For New Zealand’s own good, for Americans, and for people everywhere who believe in freedom, democracy and human rights, we should stand up to the Bush Administration, and officially protest it’s criminal policies.
It is not anti-American to bear witness to how the Bush Administration is violating the U.S. Constitution and International Law.

The issue of human rights abuses at Guantanamo Bay is still very much a live one following the release of the UN Human Rights Commission Report into the detention centre highlighting widespread torture practices. Yesterday Keith asked Foreign Minister Winston Peters during Question Time whether New Zealand would step up to the plate and call for the closure of the detention centre following the release of the report.
It is interesting that the Foreign Affairs Minister is reticent about standing up to the United States on this issue, given his recent comments about their recognition of our role in the Pacific!     Full story and feed back

Cindy Sheehan is one of the great ladies and leaders of the American Peace movement. Her soldier son was killed in Iraq and this motivated her to research the war and then become a peace campaigner exposing Bush's lies and war crimes.
Fearlessly she camped out at Bush's Texas ranch, then at the Whitehouse, demanding an interview with Bush about why her son was killed, and the illegality of the Iraq war. Naturally Bush snubbed her. If only more Americans had her courage and commitment, Bush would withdraw from Iraq.
