Thousands Rally and March Against Bush's Iraq War Comment by Larry Ross, March 19, 2007
In Christchurch New Zealand about 100 rallied in Cathedral Square. An Iraqi speaker told of the horrible conditions and 600,000 deaths in Iraq and the deprivation, squalor and incredible misery his relatives were suffering in Iraq, as a result of the Bush Administration. Other speakers spoke of the litany of lies Bush used to con people into supporting his war and its trillion dollar cost, and current 'surge' escalation. I spoke of the huge new dangers of the US-planned war against Iran and that the lies the Bush regime were using to justify this new war were like the lies Bush used to justify his Iraq war. Over one million papers on a Google search of "US war on Iran " warn of the nuclear dangers and consequences of the US madman attacking Iran . It is likely to be much larger than the Iraq war, and expand across the Middle East . It could easily become nuclear and expand into a global conflagration. A 'Shock and Awe' Blitzkrieg Bombing of 10,000 targets in Iran is predicted before the end of April 2007. As Congress is divided, weak and dithering on this issue, a people's movement to "Impeach Bush" is about the only way to stop his rush to a nuclear Armageddon. There are many things people around the world can do to help Americans stop Bush. During the Christchurch rally we gathered signatures on a New York-based petition titled "No War On Iran". These will be sent to New York today. The petition and details can be found at http://www.stopwaroniran.org/petition.shtml (online signing or pdf. to download and print ) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anti-war protesters rally in New York four years after Iraq invasion from Yahoo News, March 18, 2007 Thousands of anti-war protesters took to the streets of New York Sunday to demand the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq , in a second day of national rallies to mark the fourth anniversary of the war. Organizers from the group United for Peace and Justice said between 25,000 and 30,000 people marched in the rally, which came a day after similar mass protests in Washington and Los Angeles . Police did not estimate the turnout. A colorful mixture of students, cyclists, Vietnam war veterans and musicians marched through Midtown Manhattan, drumming and chanting slogans such as "Troops out now" and calling for President George W. Bush to be impeached. Waving placards reading "Drop Bush, Not Bombs," and "Four Years Too Long," the crowds braved near freezing temperatures as they marched under clear skies down streets lined with piles of snow. "This is not a strange lefty movement. This is the voice of the people," said Hollywood actor and director Tim Robbins, a prominent and vocal critic of the Iraq war, who was among those leading the march. "American people want this war to end, so when are we going to start listening to them?" he asked. "The main message is to stop this immoral war." Conscientious objector Jose Vasquez, a US Army staff sergeant who refused to be deployed to Iraq , said he believed the anti-war movement was seeing renewed vigor with the weekend protests.
