Left Behind Game Justifies Killing for Christ

Comment by Larry Ross, December 23, 2006

This video game equates killing unbelievers with Christian morality and teachings. The game implies that it is virtuous, Christian, ethical and spiritual to vaporize in a puff of smoke anyone who does not share the destructive religious delusions of far right Fundamentalist Christians. Fundamentalists claim they are reaching out in a spirit of love to the unbelievers, so that unbelievers have a chance to convert to the one true faith, rather than be 'left behind' in the great rapture of true believers to Heaven.

In a way this mirrors the values and actions of President George Bush. Bush claims to be a Fundamentalist Christian who regularly consults with God. Bush believes that God tells him that he is doing the right thing with his 'wars on terror' in Iraq , Afghanistan etc. To be specific, it means that starting a war based on a series of lies, and then killing 655,000 Iraqis and destroying their country is sanctioned by his Christian God. Bush also believes in the Biblically prophesied Armageddon - the final battle between good and evil. This is when Bush believes that he, and fellow like-minded Fundamentalists, will be raptured to heaven. Millions of Americans believe and work for these religious delusions. They regard Bush as appointed by God.

Because Bush's wars are against unbelievers, any lies he tells, any atrocities (such as torturing people Bush names as 'suspects'),  any killings, renditions, false imprisonments and spying even on Americans, moving toward an American version of fascism, anything at all is okay because Bush claims it is done within a religious framework approved by his Christian God.

Millions of Fundamentalists, both in and outside America , give Bush their unquestioning support. Many are wealthy, dedicated and regularly tithe for the Lord. They look forward to the final Armageddon which they believe must occur in Israel , according to the Bible. That's why Bush gives Israel and Israel 's war policies, his unstinting support and with Congress, gives them billions of dollars in military aid which Israel uses in its wars.

They urge him on. One of their major targets is Iran , which they believe must be destroyed. That is one reason why the Bush regime has demonised Iran , and invented so many lies and accusations against Iran . It is preparing the American people for 'War with Iran ' as they were prepared for 'War with Iraq ' a few years earlier with a similar batch of concocted lies. Because of American media complicity with the Bush regime and their spreading of these lies, the majority of Americans now believe that Iran is a threat to the US and that the US is justified in taking military action against it. The power of pro-war propaganda to influence and mould the public mind cannot be overestimated, both in the US and elsewhere.

Bush believes he has all the answers as he has the advice and counsel of the Lord. That is why he does not take much advice from respected senior statesmen and other experts, when they advise alternatives to the mounting slaughter in Iraq and threat of expanded wars. Why should he listen to anyone or any group (other than for cosmetic political purposes) when he believes that God is giving him all the advice he needs.

In other words we are led by a deluded maniac with visions of a God who has chosen him and given him the power to implement whatever he decides is God's will on earth. Bush has become the most powerful man in history, controlling enough nuclear fire power to destroy the earth many times over. He has also become a virtual dictator with his many fascist-type patriot laws, spying on Americans, renditions, tortures, murders and now the Congress-approved right to wage pre-emptive nuclear war against anyone he chooses.

That's a powerful mix for Americans to give to a deluded religious maniac who wants an Armageddon

Millions of Fundamentalists in the US and around the world, share his delusions, heavily tithe for them, and pray for him to persevere. They want the mass destruction of an Armageddon which Bush can help God bring on as the final heavenly reward, or punishment, for humanity. This has become an accepted belief system

The new game; 'Left Behind' fits in perfectly with Bush's religious delusions, and thus with present US polices, wars and related actions.

Bush and his millions of followers everywhere may be dismissed as crazy. But they have the power and dedication to make their delusional world a reality.

The Christian Crusades and its empowering delusions became a driving destructive reality in their day.

Killing millions in a deluded religious crusade was as far as the medieval Christian Fundamentalists could go then. Today, the Christian Fundamentalist Crusaders believe an even more destructive nonsense - that binging on an end to this world with the prophesied Armageddon is a desirable ideal worth working toward. It's God's word.

The difference between then and 1,000 years later in 2007 is that the same type of people, with more destructive delusions, but with the same type of thinking, have the technological ability to implement their delusions on the whole world. In pursuing what they believe is the work of the Lord, that they can use whatever weapons they believe God gave them for this purpose - nuclear - chemical - biological - space- whatever. Millions of 'true believers' share this delusional world and have the power to make it a terminal reality for the rest of mankind. Armageddon has become an achievable goal.

The rational majority of both Americans and other people everywhere - say 75%, are of course opposed to this nonsense which threatens humanity. However for a myriad of reasons, they don't take it seriously enough to do much about it. They tend to dismiss such nonsense as of little or no importance or relevance to themselves, family or society. However the evidence is with millions of articles on Google, in books in the Library, on our website below. I hope more people will take this threat seriously, then study more details, educate others and organize. Normal, rational people must become motivated to prevent such delusions from being implemented -more motivated than the Christian Fundamentalists are in helping Bush implement their Armageddon delusions.
