No Praise For Bush
From
LARRY ROSS, January
18, 2004
Sir,
In praising President Bush for spending billions of U.S. taxpayers
dollars to send a man to Mars,
Michael Laws (SST 18/1/04) overlooks more vital issues facing America
and the world.
- Bush launching
an illegal, unjustified and continuing war and occupation of Iraq,
killing thousands,
and making a terrorist incubator? Are international law, the U.N.
Charter and war crimes now obsolete
- at least for the U.S.?
- Famous UK physicist,
Stephen Hawking predicted that in a 100 years earth would be like
Venus
unless we spend billions on massive efforts to stop global warming
and guarantee a liveable planet.
- Spending billions
on sending a man to Mars, is just a glamorization of Bush's plans
to dominate
and militarise space. It's a diversionary tactic to draw people's
attention away from Bush's deceits
and war crimes and earn brownie points in the race to the November
elections. It would also create
a giant pork barrell in the sky so that Bush friends could get lucrative
space contracts, and then
donate more money to Bush's Republican Party.
- Bush is responsible
for the greatest deficit in U.S. history. Adding more debt would burden
future
generations of the U.S. taxpayers and threaten world financial stability.
