Hillary, Hiroshima and US Hubris Comment by Larry Ross, August 8, 2007
US policies and attitudes have shifted from nuclear deterrence with mass destruction and mutual suicide, to nuclear weapon use against any non-nuclear nation named as a US enemy. It's well documented in the Justin Raimondo article that follows. The named enemy is Iran and Bush has invented a number of lies, false accusations and suspicions to demonise Iran to the American people. Bush used the same 'big lie' technique prior to his unprovoked attack on Iraq in 2003. Then he had the alleged 9/11 'terrorist' attack and knowingly concocted lies linking Saddam Hussein to Bin Laden and this attack. Accusations were enough and worked for Bush in spite of mass demonstrations. Although there was lots of evidence these accusations were wrong, Bush's lies - effectively promoted and repeated by the mass media - were sufficient to get public and Congressional support. To this day, 4 years later, the US Congress still supports and funds Bush's illegal and criminal war against Iraq. Except for a few Congressmen, they will not question or express doubt about Bush's lies. Bush has demonstrated that using big lies, gave him unlimited access to the US Treasury to expand his wars. His Administration can make false and unsubstantiated accusations of terrorism against anyone, anywhere including in the US, then secretly kidnap and transport them to foreign prisons. Here they are imprisoned without trial and tortured. Many then 'disappear' or are killed or maimed, and remain in prison. Pre-emptive nuclear wars, introducing nuclear weapons into conventional wars, illegal spying on US citizens, seizing their property, declarations of emergency in the US with even more dictatorial powers are legislated into law by Congress. US military might surrounds Iran and Americans have been conditioned for a pre-emptive nuclear attack on Iran whenever Bush stages the triggering incident. To justify his Iraq attack, Bush had 9/11 and the 'big lies' he built around it. To justify a nuclear attack on Iran he will need much more - probably at least another 9/11 and probably much worse. Because Americans are uneducated about 'false flag' attacks that have been successfully used in the past, they can be fooled again. As a result few will believe that Bush could order the kind of evil devastation he may unleash on the US and blame Iran, to justify and gain public approval for a nuclear attack. They forget his continuing lies and crimes over the Iraq war, with 600,000 murdered. They forget all his other crimes. They will prefer to believe his new media-repeated big lies about Iran. They forget he can order a Hiroshima and much more on any nation based on his suspicions. With a media blitz to blame Iran, Bush can gain public approval to trigger nuclear events that can escalate to much wider wars. Once nuclear devastation commences, some of the other 7 or 8 nuclear weapon states may be drawn in. A series of world destroying reactions may follow in the space of a few hours. Technology has changed human reaction times since World Wars I and II. It's no longer days, weeks and months with time to reconsider, talk and stop. It's hours, minutes and seconds. If Bush triggers the nuclear war machine, there will be global destruction. Justin Raimondo gives an accurate picture of changing US policies and attitudes. People who wish to preserve American democracy, prevent nuclear war and help save the world must stop Bush, probably with impeachment, and expose the truth about him before he starts the machinery of war. There is little point in claiming you will wait and do something if the worst happens. It will then be much too late.

Justifying Mass Murder by Justin Raimondo, August 8, 2007
The anniversary of the U.S. bombing of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is, perhaps, a good time to note that arguments rationalizing and even valorizing the use of nuclear weapons, once considered beyond the pale, are now back in fashion. Here we have yet more evidence of the Bizarro Effect , which, ever since 9/11, has stood everything – especially our traditional concept of morality – on its head, not only repealing the laws of logic and common sense but also ensconcing evil in the place of good. Why, just the other day, U.S. presidential aspirant and sometime antiwar candidate Barack Obama was asked by a reporter if he would authorize the use of nuclear weapons against al-Qaeda. Instead of looking at the man as if he were more than half-crazy and pointedly asking to see his press credentials, Obama ruled out the possibility… or, maybe not. I'll leave it to my readers to make the call: "'I think it would be a profound mistake for us to use nuclear weapons in any circumstance … involving civilians,' he said, appearing uncomfortable with the query. "A moment later, he seemed to retract the entire response, saying: 'Let me scratch that. There's been no discussion of nuclear weapons. That's not on the table.'" |
