Stop the killing in Falluja!

By Carol Wolman, April 15, 2004

Dear Friends,

There is a massacre going on in Falluja, in retaliation for the murder and public mutilation of 4 American mercenaries last week. Although the reason given for the siege of that city is a determination to catch the perpetrators of that atrocity, it's quite clear that an entire civilian population is being punished for the actions of a few. At least 600 Iraqis have died so far, mostly women and children. Ambulances are being shot up, people are being told to flee the city and then stopped in the desert without food or water. These heinous crimes are being committed by the American military, no doubt following orders from Rumsfeld and Bush.

The following was just sent out by Voices in the Wilderness, the heroic Christian group that organized the human shields during the invasion of Iraq last year. Let's flood Congress and the White House with calls demanding an end to the killing. This is being done in our name, with our tax dollars. It must stop! Pray for peace, Carol Wolman

We are asking everyone in the United States to call their elected representatives at the Capitol switchboard, 202-225-3121 and President Bush at 202-456-1111 or 456-1112, and everyone living outside of the US to ask the US embassy in their home country to enact an immediate ceasefire of the US military's operations in Falluja. According to eyewitness reports there is a terrible massacre taking place in Falluja, and Iraqi civilians are caught in the desert with no place to go while the hospitals of Falluja have filled up with the dead and the dying. The Guardian newspaper reported today that the estimated death toll of Iraqis from this violence in Falluja is over 450 and the number of injured over 1,000.
