Request for an Update From Chuck Tripp To Whom It May Concern: A group of us in the states of Utah and Ohio are working on a war crimes case against George W. Bush, and we would appreciate any information you might be able to share with us if your are still interested in this issue. Too, do you know of any organizations in New Zealand, say a Green Party chapter for example, that might be interested in participating in the effort with us. We're also contemplating holding a citizen's tribunal as has been done already in Tokyo and New York and as was planned in New Zealand last year. Can you provide me with any updated information as to what is going on or what has happened with your tribunal? No matter how Bush or others around the world may "sugar coat" his invasion and occupation of Iraq, pointing out how it has opened up democracy in the Middle East and such, nothing will erase the fact that Bush's actions and orders were violations of international humanitarian and war crimes law and led to the killing of thousands of innocent civilians. In a political system based on rule of law, which the U.S. claims to be, murderous acts that might have unexpectedly pleasant results must still be punished. Bush did what he did, nothing can erase that, and efforts to make him pay and hold him responsible in a court of law must be never-ending and ongoing. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer. Sincerely, Chuck Tripp Co-Chair of the Committee for War Criminal Prosecution (CWCP) Member of the Utah Green Party ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Larry - Thanks for your response, thoughts and input. Your organization's website is great. I'm working on an article on the 9 major treaties and agreements Bush has violated, that'll be accessible through Utah's Green Party website, and I'll include your site as a link. I'll let you know when it's finished. It seems that you represent or even chair an organization, am I right? If so, it'd be great to have you join as a signatory with the Green Party chapters of Utah and Ohio (and hopefully the Czech Republic's Green party as well) in sending out a letter we've developed to U.N. delegates from more than 70 countries in 7 languages (to make things a bit more politically correct) asking them to introduce or request a Security Council resolution creating a special tribunal to investigate ALL alleged war crimes that have occurred in Iraq from March, 2003-the present. (Whew, that sentence was a mouthful.) Of course, we know the U.S. would use its veto to crush any such effort, but that's the whole idea-to smoke out the U.S. veto and expose U.S. hypocrisy to the world once again (war crimes tribunals-OK for Yugoslavia and Rwanda but not for the U.S.) I'll include the statement, which is currently being translated into French, Spanish, German, Chinese, Arabic and Russian, below. This is just one of several efforts we have planned, in addition to a tribunal, to highlight Bush's war crimes. We want to send the statement out on March 18 since that's just the day before March 19 anti-war/anti-Bush demonstrations around the U.S. will focus attention on the second anniversary of Bush's Iraq invasion. Anyway, let me know if you'd like to sign on, and I'll keep you updated from this end as things develop. Strategy advice on stopping Bush and his crazy pals? Stay angry, keep making plans and widen your worldwide network of contacts. Chuck Tripp, March 18, 2005 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To All United Nations Delegations: We are mystified by the United Nations' silence regarding the extensive and well-documented crimes committed in Iraq by the government of the United States of America. We applaud Secretary General Annan's statement last fall that the Iraq war was illegal, but when laws are broken, as so many have been by the U.S.A. in Iraq, there should be consequences and efforts to bring those who are guilty to justice. We think the family of nations needs to call for a special tribunal to investigate ALL alleged crimes committed in Iraq from the March 19, 2003 invasion to the present, even if the U.S.A. will veto any such effort. The U.N. should take the moral and legal high ground in this situation, because the Iraq invasion and occupation have eroded its credibility to deal with human rights violators and international lawbreakers around the world and will continue to do so until serious efforts are made to bring those responsible for crimes in Iraq to justice. The thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians who were and are currently being killed, tortured and injured deserve no less. Even if many people agree with the Iraq invasion's results, those who used murderous, violent and illegal methods to achieve them must not go unpunished nor should they be allowed to benefit from their misdeeds. Therefore, we respectfully request your country's participation in creating a U.N. resolution to establish an International Criminal Tribunal for Iraq to investigate all alleged human rights violations, war crimes and illegal acts committed by all armed forces, groups and factions during the U.S.-led invasion and occupation of Iraq from March 19, 2003 to the present time. Thank you. Sincerely, The Green Party of Ohio, U.S.A.
