Israel and US Joint Operations to Strike Iran

Comment by Larry Ross, February 25, 2007

Some articles say the US will stage an attack on Iran, others say Israel will attack Iran. Some say it will be a joint operation. In the following article the decision to strike is Israel 's but with US permission. I doubt whether Israel would attack Iran on its own, even though Israeli hawks may reason that Israel's nuclear arsenal will protect it against any retaliation. Other nations would fear that Israel may then retaliate with nuclear weapons and wipe them out. Israel and the US are playing on this fear. Israel has the full support of the Bush regime, which has been planning to attack Iran for years.

How can they do this while lessening the political impact in the US, Israel and other countries?

One method is staging a false flag operation or some provocation in which the US stages an alleged terrorist attack on the US and blames Iran. Then the Bush regime promotes that lie to other governments and its own people in the same way it promoted lies about Iraq. The object is to get approval, and discourage disapproval of a US or US - Israel nuclear strike on up to 10,000 targets Iran. It will be allegedly just striking the nuclear infrastructure. But the plans show (see other articles on this site) that Bush wants to attack the entire Iranian society and reduce it to the stoneage. This strategy would involve a very big and believable lie blaming Iran for a big real crime against the US that the Bush regime had staged itself. With the usual 100% co-operation of the mass media and new dictatorial, war crisis legislation and controls on US society, Bush might get away with such a strategy without being prosecuted or exposed. The crime may be just too big for most uninformed and unprepared people to even conceive that the Bush regime was responsible. Such a theory would be too far-fetched too 'conspiracy theory' for most and it would be dismissed. The facts show that the US has used false flag operations in the past. (See 'False Flag' on this site or on Google) Many other governments wanting a reluctant population to suddenly begin hating a chosen enemy and supporting a war against that enemy have done the same.

It is widely known that the Bush regime has systematically lied to the US people and Congress about their reasons for launching an illegal attack and occupation of Iraq in 2003. Saddam had no WMD or nuclear weapons and was not planning an attack on the UK or US. He had no links to al-Qaeda, Bin-Laden or the 9/11 attack. He was not even planning to make nuclear weapons and was cleared by inspections of the IAEA. In spite of the widespread awareness of all Bush lies, and that Bush has committed impeachable crimes against the US Constitution, International law and the UN Charter, he still manages to thumb his nose at everyone, dismiss any criticism or advice, and carry on his war as usual. The US Congress has shown it will make lots of disapproval noises, but will not, or can not take serious action to stop Bush. Bush has many powerful Democratic and Republican allies in Congress who repeat his lies and will block any legislation to stop him. The Bush regime have surrounded themselves with like-minded people, and stocked a vast robotic infrastructure of civil servants with people willing to carry out every command of the Bush regime.

The exposure of the magnitude of Bush's lies and crimes against both the Iraqis and Americans is simply lacking from US media. Thus one of the biggest stories in human history cannot be reported in the US, or in most other US-allied countries, such as New Zealand, Australia, Britain and others. I think this phenomenon of press silence, press pro-war propaganda and slanted stories is responsible for the relaxed, unconcerned attitude of most people to both the hideous barbarity of the US war on Iraq as well as the prospect of a huge war on Iran with millions of casualties if Bush attack 10,000 targets and/or uses nuclear weapons. The media avoids any discussion of dire consequences or the potential for a world war III, thus people are conditioned there is nothing to worry about. the media is well and truly embedded in the Bush war juggernaut.

Alternative War Strategy
If may have been decided that Israel should strike first, with the understanding that the US can then invoke it's defence treaty with Israel, and use that as a justification to make additional strikes on Iran in order to prevent or reduce retaliation against Israel. That approach would sell better to the American people, rather than a US first strike on Iran. Also, due to the power and influence of the Israeli lobby in the US, there would be much less popular protest as people have been conditioned to hate and fear Iran, while at the same time led to believe they must support and aid Israel and not criticise or question Israeli policies for fear of being labelled 'anti-Semitic or 'pro-terrorist' or 'terrorist sympathiser'. Unfortunately this kind of 'big lie' propaganda technique works in the US because the media usually supports and repeats the lies, and usually does not question the lies and tricks of the Bush regime.

That's the situation as I see it at the moment. Most of the other articles on this site tend to confirm some, or all, of this analysis.

Israel seeks all clear for Iran air strike

by Con Coughlin in Tel Aviv , February 24, 2007

"The Telegraph" -- -- Israel is negotiating with the United States for permission to fly over Iraq as part of a plan to attack Iran's nuclear facilities, The Daily Telegraph can reveal.

To conduct surgical air strikes against Iran's nuclear programme, Israeli war planes would need to fly across Iraq. But to do so the Israeli military authorities in Tel Aviv need permission from the Pentagon.

A senior Israeli defence official said negotiations were now underway between the two countries for the US-led coalition in Iraq to provide an "air corridor" in the event of the Israeli government deciding on unilateral military action to prevent Teheran developing nuclear weapons.

"We are planning for every eventuality, and sorting out issues such as these are crucially important," said the official, who asked not to be named.

"The only way to do this is to fly through US-controlled air space. If we don't sort these issues out now we could have a situation where American and Israeli war planes start shooting at each other."

As Iran continues to defy UN demands to stop producing material which could be used to build a nuclear bomb, Israel's military establishment is moving on to a war footing, with preparations now well under way for the Jewish state to launch air strikes against Teheran if diplomatic efforts fail to resolve the crisis.

The pace of military planning in Israel has accelerated markedly since the start of this year after Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service, provided a stark intelligence assessment that Iran, given the current rate of progress being made on its uranium enrichment programme, could have enough fissile material for a nuclear warhead by 2009.

Last week Ehud Olmert, the Israeli prime minister, announced that he had persuaded Meir Dagan, the head of Mossad for the past six years and one of Israel's leading experts on Iran's nuclear programme, to defer his retirement until at least the end of next year.

Mr Olmert has also given overall control of the military aspects of the Iran issue to Eliezer Shkedi, the head of the Israeli Air Force and a former F-16 fighter pilot.

The international community will increase the pressure on Iran when senior officials from the five permanent of the United Nations Security Council and Germany meet at an emergency summit to be held in London on Monday.
