The Rebirth of Idealism

COMMENT BY LARRY ROSS, 28/9/03

I have looked at some of the US presidential candidates and feel Denis Kucinich is the best to achieve
peace, and change to a more compassionate society in the USA. Wherever you live, the world is a small
place with all life at risk from a nuclear war. So from that point of view, George Bush's actions can effect
you too - no matter how far away you are. In this way, you are also US citizens, as their fate will probably
also become yours. That is the way it is with nuclear war - it can easily expand, and include huge
increases in lethal radiation that may kill most life. There is no second chances.

If Bush contines the way he is going with the new pre-emptive nuclear war doctrines used against some
of the other countries named in his Nuclear Posture Review, then he may precipitate a nuclear armageddon
if re-elected in 2004. As Bush is a Christian Fundamentalist, he can't be too unhappy with the idea of
George Bush being the key man in what he will see, and sell to his religious supporters, as the heavenly
armageddon predicted in the Bible.. It must all make a kind of simpletons-sense to Bush, who was an
alcoholic for 20 years, before being saved by jesus and the christian fundamentalists.

As we have all become de-facto US citizens on this small planet, we should take an interest in who the US
public votes to be their President. and how his nuclear war policies can effect us. People everywhere may be
able to help those groups in the US that are working to elect a saner, less extreme President, like canidate
Denis Kucinich. The following article tells you something about him.
Lots more is on their web site.

Subject: Kucinich Culture Newsletter (1:2) -- The Rebirth of Idealism

Hello Team Kucinich (and potential supporters):

Our strength and numbers have grown to the point where we have attained "critical mass". From modest beginnings we are seeing the early signs of a true Populist and Progressive groundswell of support for the People's Candidate for President, the Congressman from Ohio, Dennis Kucinich.

Rarely, if ever, has a candidate of such vision, distinction, integrity, compassion, and humility sought the highest office of the land. All other candidates, from any political party, pale in comparison to this Champion of the People, Dennis Kucinich.

Clearly, this remarkable man's bid for the White House has caught the attention of the power brokers and guardians of the status quo; though, thanks to media coverage which is at the same time scant, misleading,
and deceptive, our candidate is running somewhat of a stealth campaign at this moment. But rest assured, this is about to change. How do i know that? ...because we're going to make it happen.

We Cultural Creatives -- numbering 25% of the adult population of the Western World, some 50 million people in this country alone, more than enough people to elect the next President if we work together -- must come to grips with the fact that we're the ones responsible for manifesting the New Paradigm. Our greatest challenge to achieving this is that our ranks are replete with disillusioned or disenfranchised
erstwhile Idealists who are looking for something "safe" to believe in.

To be effective, we must reach out to these kindred spirits who have, for whatever reason, renounced their Idealism. We must engage and reinvigorate the "Realists" and "Pragmatists" in our ranks and imbue
them with a revolutionary zeal. We must bring Idealism back in vogue... no more feeling ashamed that you're no longer willing to settle for the "lesser of two evils".

Fear of failure and fear of a greater 'evil' have driven good people to embrace incremental change when a bold departure from the status quo is what is needed. If we Cultural Creatives have the courage to rediscover the Idealism and exuberance of our youth, we will elect Dennis Kucinich to the Presidency and, in doing so, we will manifest Peace on Earth in our lifetime.

Together, we will change the world. This is our shared destiny... let us realize it.

In Peace and Solidarity,
